| Help! Problem after being spayed HI everyone, I have a question about my Yorkies behavior after being spayed. She is almost 1 year old and she was just spayed 3 days ago. The sugery went well but now she lays down all day and seems depressed. Everytime we put her on the floor she just runs to a bed. This is not at all how she used to be, i know she just had surgery 3 days ago but she can walk and run fine, it just seems like she dosent want to. Also everytime my other puppy goes near her she growls at him and gets really mad. Did anyone elses Yorkie behave like this after being spayed? Do you think she will ever act like her normal self again? How did your puppy act after being spayed? Also how long does the healing process usually take? Help please ! she is my baby Thankyou !!!! |

| I would call your vet. It may be infection. Does she show any other signs of infection?

| Had my female spayed last month and all she did for about 3-4 days was lay around. She mostly wanted to lay next to me where-ever I was. If she has no infections I think she will be back to normal in about 7 days. Remember this is major surgery for the females. Mine is back to normal self. |

| Good to know it's not an infection. It may just take her longer to feel like herself again. My Lulu was spayed 2 weeks ago & was back to normal the day after her spay surgery. But each one of our babies are different & will recover differently. Just let her rest & be sure she is eating and drinking well.

| Maybe she is just taking a little more time to get back to herself? Some only take a day or two, other take a bit longer. It is a major surgery. if the vet says no infection then I wouldn't worry too much about it. My Uni got spayed last month and she was back to normal and humping her bed again in about 3 days. Yes she still humps! She have a voracious appetite now though! Other than that she hasn't changed.

| It's a major change in her hormones, so personality change is very possible. Usually it only lasts days to months. My girl was extra grumpy for a couple months after her spay. Also, she is probably in a lot of pain still. Some tolerate it better than others. What pain med is she on?

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I noticed after having Scarlett spayed 2 weeks ago, that days 3-4 seemed to be the most difficult for her. A spay is major surgery and the muscles get sore after it. Add in a couple days of probably not sleeping very well and you have a yorkie that just wants to stay next to you and cuddle. As long as the incision look good and she's eating well I would just enjoy the extra cuddle time.

| Mine had a harder time for the first 3 days, she just wanted to lay around, and only got up to go pee. Some just take a little longer. On the day after the spay, she did have a couple of minutes when she acted normal. I opened the front door, which I normally wouldn't do because she is a bolter and will run the street if she gets out. I figured I didn't need to take any precautions since she was just laying around and didn't want to get up. WRONG! She bolted out the door and ran all over our cul-de-sac, in her onesie with me chasing after her. The chow chow across the street was sitting alone in his driveway (VERY unusual, I knew he lived there but had never seen him in the front yard), and she ran circles around him trying to get him to play. I finally got her and brought her back inside, where she resumed being a princess who didn't want to get up off of her throne for the next two days.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | My little Molly had so many problems at the beginning we decided to wait until after her 2nd cycle to spay her. Saving money now to do that early next year. Will also have her teeth pulled where she has not lost the baby teeth! Ugh! Have many of you had to extract baby teeth? I only want her to get anesthesia the one time so we are killing 2 birds with one stone so to speak.

| My two were spayed and neuterd at 6 mos at the same time. They just wanted to lay around. I hand fed them chicken and rice. Water from a syringe. Boomer was ready to play the day after, but I tried to keep him still. Muffin girl took a couple days. She would try to get up and play a little, but then would get back in her bed. I spent the whole weekend watching movies just so they would stay still. Muffin has a huge appetite now and will try to finish off Boomer's food. According to the vet, she's not over weight, but I think she could lose a pound or so. Boomer is long and lean. The vet said Muffin is at one end of the spectrum and Boomer is at the other in terms of weight.

We had to extract a primary canine with Scarlett. We did it at the same time as her spay for the same reason.

| Does a Yorkie go through a hormone change after spayed? Hi; my fur baby Tia, was spayed 2 1/2 weeks ago. She use to sleep in her kennel all through the Night. Now she will just sleep around 4 hrs. & the rest of the night , she's up whining for no reason!! And if I doesn't speak to her she'll bark, That's something she never ever did before her Spay!! Frustrating. Do you think there's something wrong?? |
