Yorkie Yakker | TESTING! Does this work?? Hey Everyone, I have a full grown Yorkie. He is 3lbs and is 11 months old. Tomorrow he is going in to get neutered and 2 baby teeth pulled (the long top ones) at the same time. I know I am a worry wort but how long should I be with him after this procedure gets done? I worry about going back to work when he is in pain. I work and live at the same community I live in so I can go home anytime to check on him and give him medicine. I am off work tomorrow & the following day after. I go back to work Wednesday. Any Suggestions I should do before and after the surgery? The vet told me at midnight tonight take away all his food but leave him a little water. Please help! This is my baby and it natural to worry about them. | I'm not sure I can help because I have girls. I don't think it's the same, but both of mine were great. Ally was 3 lbs and 13 teeth removed and Tia was 4 lbs 2 oz and two removed. Ally stayed overnight and Tia came home the same day. Tia needed a little more pain meds but did great too. It was hard keeping Tia from playing with Ally. Ally would bring her toys the first day. The next few days I needed to tie them down because Tia was too active. It was difficult to keep her down. (Ally is almost 13 months older than Tia.) Maybe your baby will rest while you are not home. That would be better than trying to follow you around when he is in pain. I remember Tia trying to follow me the first day and she couldn't even get up. Sending hugs and kisses for him to feel better soon. They heal fast though! |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Hi, I know how you are feeling. I felt the same way when Jersey was neutered, your little one will be just fine. The vet should give him pain meds and he'll be back to himself before you know it. With Jersey he just slept mostly for the 1st 24 hours then he was up and about back to himself in about 48 hours. I took 3 days off to be with him.

| We were worried and scared. Everything was fine. He needed pain meds for just 2 days. The day of he was sleepy and not very aware of what was going on. |

| We made sure he stayed away from stitches. He did not need the cone, but we had one from the vet in case he did. If you need to be at work, you will probably use the cone since you won't be able to watch him to make sure. We were told not to feed him or to feed him very little that evening because he could throw up. He was whimpering, I thought from pain, but before giving him meds, I offered him about a tablespoon of chicken. He scarfed it down and went right to sleep. So for him hunger was an issue. Also, I crushed his kibble the next day and fed it to him slowly. By afternoon of that next day, he ate normally. The vet will give you info too. Dinky weighs 3.75 lbs now, but weighed under 3.5 at surgery time. He needed like 2 drops of meds! Don't be surprised if you cry when you drop him off! |

| I would keep him in his bed and just take him out for potty breaks. Make sure he's kept nice and warm. It generally takes a couple days before they get over the anesthesia fully, so he's going to be a bit out of it, especially the first day. Make his diet very bland, like maybe some rice and meat, but feed just a tiny bit at a time to see if he can hold it down. (you can also mix baby food meats and veggies together) I'm sure they will put a cone on him to prevent him from chewing the surgery site, especially when it starts healing since that makes it itch. Good luck with your baby.
