| New puppy in 2 weeks, help with supplies please!!! Hello, I will be bringing my new puppy home in about 2 weeks. I have spent countless time searching this website trying to make sure I will have everything for my little girl when she gets to come home, but there is just TOO much info on here! The breeder told me she will be coming home with a bed, leash, harness, toys, treats, food, etc. I want to get a crate, does anyone have any suggestions as a certain one to purchase? Also-I did comment on the collar thread. I had bought a little collar, but after furthure investigation, it seems I should not use the collar-ever, even for just out the door potty time? I do not feel comfortable having her not have tags, although she will not be outside alone, accidents DO happen. I know as my dog we have now has somehow gotten outside, whether the leash wasn't attached or the door was wide open, thankfully we either found her or she always came home, but I am too nervous for this to happen with a tiny dog with no tags on her! I read about the break away collar, which seems like it may be a good option to wear all the time. Does anyone else have any suggestions of collars? I had bought one of those lulu something or other from walmart, only because it was adorable. But I do not want her to wear something that will hurt her! If anyone can give me any pointers or suggestions or must haves (I know, there is probably a million posts just like this one) please help me out! I've never owned a yorkie before, and I am SUPER excited!!! |

| Congratulations on your new pup. I prefer the wire crates with an adjustable divider that enables you to give your pup more room as she grows. You can cover the crate with a blanket or any piece of fabric if your pup wants more of the darker den feel. I bought mine at Walmart. Some other things to have on hand and to do: - an xpen - a comfy bed - stainless steel or chip resistant ceramic food and water bowls - piddle pads - babygates as needed, and other puppy-proofing accessories like electrical outlet covers (elevate or protect all electrical cords too) - put all houseplants out of reach and make sure flower or leaf petals can't fall on the floor |

| Hello! I'll be getting my new Peyton in just over three weeks. I wish it was already time! Like you I am using this time to prepare for the little guy. I have Sophia who will be 6 years old this Friday...but having a new puppy again is different. Anyhow, here are a few other things I thought I'd suggest... Heated bed, heartbeat sound dog pillow, good shampoo (I just ordered some minksheen), ear cleaner and nutrical you can get from the vet, a few soft fleece blankets, a soft brush, a doggy sweater for cold days when you go outside, a carrier purse (yes some of these things are just for fun ), a few safe puppy toys, and lots of piddle pads! Two weeks? Is this a Christmas pup? Congratulations! Any pics to share?

| If you use the collar just for your dog's tag and you don't use it to walk her, it's no problem. The main thing you have to be aware of is the hypoglycemia issue. Yorkies tend to have that problem. You should give her something like Nutrical or even honey once a day just to be on the safe side. Everything else comes second and believe me you will be spending lots of time from now on shopping for your Yorkie. It just seams that no matter how many things you buy they are never enough for your baby. Best of luck and from now on Best of fun Maria |

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | You can have her wear a collar for her ID tags, just as long as you dont attach the leash to it when you walk her. Always attach the leash to the harness. Another option is you could have her ID tags attached to the D ring on her harness.

| Thank for the replies! Is there a certain brush/comb I should get, or will really any one meant for a dog do? Also, does anyone know where I can pick up a cute dog blanket? I have an adorable leopard print one for my dog that we already have, but can't seem to find a similar (or pink, purple, anything girly will do!) one anywhere, I will have to search a little harder I think! Also, any recommendations for a potty cleaner ANd an xpen? I've seen a lot of the wire- xpens, but i'm just SO nervous it will topple over when i'm not around, should this be a concern?? |
