| Long Road Trip vs. Staying home with Grandma??? HELLO EVERYONE!!! Well, my husband & I are going on a long road trip tomorrow. It's a 10 hour trip, but we're breaking it into 2 days. Our 4 month old, female Yorkie isn't fully potty-trained yet...she still uses the potty-pads, when she wants to. She's typically really good on the road, but has never been on the road for more than 2 hours straight. And, has neven had "an accident" in the car either. She usually just sleeps the whole time, and just enjoys laying on out laps. When we arrive at our destination, she will be in her "play-pin" for most of the day. Due to us being away, and there being several little kids around too. At night she will continue to sleep in the bed with us, just like she always does! We will be away for 5 days, then we're and back on the road. Also, breaking the roadtrip into 2 days on our way home! ***OR*** We could leave out precious baby with my Grandma. My grandma will be away during the day, for about 7 hours, and will check on her @ mid-day. In the eveinings she will let her run around the house, like she does @ our house. Our main concern here, is that my Grandma has 2 cats at her house. Our puppy loves to play & chase them around, and they are just NOT having it. They aren't the playful type AT ALL! We're just a little scared that they might scratch, and/or hurt her. I'm sure my Grandma will take very good care of her, but I still have my concerns. Also, during those 5 days I'm worried about our Yorkie puppy developing Seperation Anxiety...that will be the longest she has ever been away from either one of us. We're very torn at this point, and just don't know which would be the BEST choice for us, & our puppy. SOMEONE PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!!! WE'RE LEAVING IN THE MORNING!!! I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE GIVEN!! |

| If she were mine, I'd take he with me, but she would be riding in a car seat for her own safety.

| That's a tough one and I am in a very similar situation only my option is to keep my baby at home or board her to spare her the stress of company. I always take my dogs whenever possible. If you take her though, take enough water from home for her to drink because sometimes, they will go off water if it tastes different than what they are used to, and allow her a few potty breaks to stretch her legs and exercise a little bit. If the cats are bothering you, one thing to remember is that cats have the advantage, really. If they want to get away from a restless puppy, they can and will. So, even though you may think a cat doesn't want the attention, they just have to be a "cat" about it. They can scratch, but they generally know they are dealing with a innocent puppy and will retreat rather than use force when they can.

| ^ Agree with Karen. But I just love to travel with Jackson -- I have a lot of fun with him, so when I don't have to leave him behind, I don't like to. I would do it! I think you'll discover she does fantastic! PS - I wouldn't worry about the dog developing separation anxiety from being left, but you do have to watch out for the human! I miss Jackson more than he misses me me when I go away, I think, LOL.

| I took both of mine on a 12 hour road trip last year and Chloe was only about 5 months old at the time. They were both very good- we traveled through the middle of the night, so they spent a large portion sleeping in their bag since it was night time anyway. In the morning we stopped for breakfast and while everyone else ate I took them for a long walk, then they got some scrambled eggs and back into the car they went. We stopped a handful of other times and I let them out to stretch their legs. They were perfect angels! For me taking mine or leaving them depends on how easy it will be to have them where I am. If they are welcome where you are gonig- why not? Good Luck |

| Take her . We wondered how Sophie would travel on her first real road trip of 1200 miles by car and she did terrific. Sophie never got car sick and she traveled in a pet carrier car seat. Lots of potty breaks and she should do great.

| I vote to take her with. My little guy would be heartbroken if he didn't go with. He did well when we went on a 9 hr trip and loved it more than anything. Beth and Taylor |

| You can always use a GPS to search out Petsmarts, Petco's and other dog friendly places..... I put a pee pad in my pocket and we "go" in the restroom at Petsmart.... works like a charm!..... plus much better if it is snowing and nasty outside. Shelby and Seymour always want to sniff and wander when we stop and let them out..... which is a PAIN if it is freezing cold, snowing or raining. Have a wonderful trip! Be safe!

| I agree with everyone else. I never leave my two unless I absolutely have to. In 2.5 years, Couver has only been away from me for one night. Have fun on your trip!

| Take her with. When you stop for gas, or a rest break, let her out. Maxine used to travel for 2-3 days straight from Chicago to Phoenix. WHen we stop for gas, or a bite to eat, we lets the dogs out. "Who let the Dogs out"? |
