| Yorkie Barking and Neighbor Complain Came home from work today to hear from my husband that the new neighbor ( moved in 2 weeks ago) came at the door about 7:30 am this morning complaining about our yorkie, Bear barking. I normally wake up for work at 6:30 am, and Bear is with me in the backyard every morning about 30 minutes, while I drink my coffee. He is the in house when I leave for work. He does bark sometimes, but no too much. I left for work at 6:50am this morning, and my husband stayed home. I am very upset! Especially since this is a new neighbor, never had any issues with the rest of the neighborhood. Is 7am to early to let the dog out? How much barking is too much? Bear never barks more then a couple of minutes. Another thing is , my husband said , the neighbor told him that the dog is barking by the pool, which means that he was looking thru our fence at 7:00am!!!! before coming to the door. Need your opinion please! Thanks |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Well I'm not sure about the laws there In TX but here in Michigan if your dog bark lot and you have complaining neighbors you could get a misdemeanor ticker...My hubby is a police officer and you can't believe how many people complain about dogs barking in the city... Ok with that said... A dog is going to bark..HELLO!! It's what they do...lol... But i can understand if you have a dog that is barking for awhile and people are trying to sleep... If Izzy is barking to much i will tell her "Quiet" .. all my dogs are pretty good about...But then again we live kind of in the country and we have great nieghbors who also have dogs too. You just dont want your neighbor getting so upset that they call animal control or do something for your sweet baby

| To me, at 6:30 am any amount is too much I wouldn't really complain though about a couple of barks one day or a couple of barks each day. If it woke me up, I'd probably mention it though. I certainly wouldn't look through the fence though to find out where/what was being barked at. |

| Do you have a noise ordinance in your city? Many towns have laws against excessive noise between certain hours, like 7:00 and 11:00 pm, etc. During those hours the police can cite you for disturbing the peace if your dog is barking, you have a noisy party late at night, etc. |

| This is all I was able to find on the City web page. It doesn't specify the time, but it does mention loud and unusual barking, whatever that means. Bear barks, but in my opionion ( I am subjective for sure , not for too long, and he can't be as loud as a big dog, but it is usually in the morning when I let him out before work. I will start training him to stop barking on comand, don't want any problems with the new neighbor. Thank you all for your replies. " A person commits an offense if the keeping of any animal causes loud and unusual barking, howling or other noise that disturbs the peace and quiet of any person of ordinary sensibilities. A person who is disturbed by an animal may file a complaint with Animal Control, who, in turn, will contact the owner in person or by mail to advise them of the complaint. The owner will be given alternative methods to keep the animal from disturbing the neighboring residences." |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Okay I live in a city barking any amount at 6 am even to 7 am is to say the least annoying. And 2-3 minutes of barking is a Long Time. 2 -3 barks is a different matter. Yorkies can have piercing barks at times, which can be very annoying. So whatever you can do to eliminate that barking will be appreciated by your neighbour.

| If my own dogs were barking for a couple minutes I'd be annoyed. I find just a couple barks are a couple barks too many So, I can imagine your neighbor would be bothered by it especially if they're trying to sleep at 6:30 in the morning.

Senior Yorkie Talker | She sounds like a prima donna to me! Your Izzy is not barking in excess. There is always 1 bad apple in the uch. Just ignore the neighor and maybe go out with Izzy so that you can control the morning barking. Good luck! |

| I used to work nights and got home at 3-4 am. The neighbors dog would always bark in the morning- 7- ish. Well, it got the point that it was extremely annoying so I started to make a lot of noise when I got home and the dog would start barking. Needless to say the neighbor was not happy but got the point. I think that a dog barking for a few moments is up there on the annoyance scale and especially first thing in the morning. It's one thing if the dog is sensing danger and barking but to bark for no reason is annoying.

| I'd look at it like this: yeah, the neighbor is being a little too much, BUT if it bothers him, it bothers him so it's up to you to not allow your dog to bark outside that early, which may mean switching to indoor potty pads. The fact is if he chooses to call animal control and it doesn't stop after that and he calls again and again, etc, you could lose your dog as a result. He may have looked in your yard only to make sure he had the right place before coming over. Dogs around our neighborhood that bark it isn't always easy to tell exactly where the bark is coming from other than the general area. Or tell your neighbor your dog only barks at that strange person you see frequently looking in his window/garage/name the area of the neighbor's place and then add, "Gosh, I thought that person lived with you... he doesn't?...Oh thank Goodness we have a good watch dog on our block, huh?" Maybe he'll realize the value of a barking dog (within reason of course) I'm personally thankful for the occasional neighborhood dog bark...let's us know when strangers are in the vicinity. Several years ago I had a cocker spaniel who always barked toward the neighbor's house, much to his dislike, one night she was particularly persistent - didn't know the neighbor was out of town - so I desperately am trying to keep her quiet --- come to find out thieves cleaned out his house, after he came over when he got back to ask if we noticed anything unusual. | I can tell you from experience the Bark Off doesn't work...I bought a ton of them because of my neighbor's dog barking, every time we went in our own yard it was bad though and we lived here first!...and I had 4 dogs here then whom bark but not after they are hushed or without good reason. My sig. other works nights so 10 am barking would annoy him...we have a rule here my dogs know well "no barking in the house" they know exactly what it means and respond to it. I'd work on getting my dog used to the new neighbor (taking cookies over never hurts-well avoid nuts in them a lot of ppl are allergic) and do like many say: be attentive outdoors and monitor how much barking is going on and hushing it after a couple barks-besides the ordnance you posted is there any further restriction on the amount of barking I'm asking because here there is a 7 am -10 pm noise ordnance that applies to barking dogs even though it doesn't mention dog barking in the noise "disturbance" ordnance itself, also there is a separate ordnance here that if a dog barks in increments and lasting more than minutes or for periods of you get an automatic fine...honestly I don't see how a Yorkie barking can be that annoying unless you have a shared wall, and being the "new neighbor" you'd think they'd want to worry about fitting into the neighborhood! Either or if your dog is barking you will be the one in hot water so cover your bottom! Best of luck! |

| Thank you Kenda, that was exactly my point. I want my dog to bark when somebody or something come close to my property. Of course, I don't want him to be enoying to the neighborhood. Also, we just started with outdoor potty, and he is doing great! He just stands by the backyard door and as soon as I let him out, he goes to potty. Less and less accidents in the house. ( He also potty on the pads when he is home alone). There is no way for me to know if at the time when he goes to potty outside he may see a squirell or a bunny, and starts to bark. At 7 am! |

| Maybe he was barking at the squirrel looking through your fence. I know barking can be annoying at times but some people can also be a pain. We once had a next door neighbor that complained our sprinklers come on to eary in the morning and keep her awake. Go figure!!!!! |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | The neighbor may be a Prima Donna, or they could very well have a legitimate complaint. Even though I love dogs, it annoys the heck out of me when someone lets their dog bark incessantly. 6:30 a.m. would drive me nuts. We all get a little immune to our own dogs barking, so we might not be aware of how it's perceived by others. I would suggest talking to your other neighbors to see if they are bothered by Bear being out that early, you might be surprised. But all it takes is one disgruntled neighbor to make your life an (expensive) living hell. If you live in a subdivision with an HOA, they might even have stricter rules in place than your county does.

| I had the same thing to happen with new neighbors. They ended up taking me to court but then they did not show up so the judge threw it out. |
