Donating YT 500 Club Member | Thank you Chattiesmom (Cindy) Back in October I read a post by Cindy about Shank bones - I had a hard time getting them for Bridget and Greta, as no one around here would cut them - for safety reasons I was told. Well the girls received an envelope yesterday with about 8 shank bones from Cindy...I haven't seen anything but the tops of their heads ever since! They just love them! Cindy - here is a smile box with pictures of the girls enjoying the bones - along with a couple of video clips of them during and after....they certainly were wound up! (Ignore the poor pics and video - I'm still learning a new camera - and honestly the girls hair doesn't always look like that!) Thank you so much Cindy - you certainly made their day. The generosity and caring of so many on this forum never cease to amaze me! from me and two from Bridget and Greta! http://smilebox.com/playBlog/4d6a413...&blogview=true

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | That was too cute, they really like those bones!! I love giving mine things that keep them busy, but of course, mine usually leave 2 bones on the floor and fight over one of them... |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Amy - I couldn't believe Bridget got up and left hers behind - until I realized she had 2 others hidden in her secret hiding place (where to this day I haven't been able to find). But normally they do want the one the other has...even with their dinner plates they trade off like there is going to be anything left on either one! After that - they go and oust the cats from their plates!

| Aww it makes my heart happy knowing that Bridget and Greta were enjoying their bones while I was enjoying my stoup (something between soup and stew). I used the last of the broth for dinner tonight. Thank you for taking the time to make the Smilebox. It sure made me smile! |

| Cute smilebox but be careful with shank bones. I gave one to Daisy two months ago. Long story short, she fractured a 4th molar on it, dentist told me that bones were big cause of cracked teeth in dogs. Due to bloodwork, complications and surgery needed in my high risk dog, this $2 shank bone cost me over $2,000 to deal with. No more bones for us!

I know OMG is exactly what I said when I added it all up! The dental clinic at Boston's Angell Memorial informed me that animal bones as well as deer antlers, hooves etc are all known to fracture teeth. Their suggestion was to stick with gumba-bones like flexible nylabones or anything that you can indent using your fingernail. The dentist told me that if you cannot make a mark with your fingernail, it's a fracture risk. Other bad items are ice cubes. The joke is that Daisy has the $million$ dollar tooth but really it was very stressful. She is a high risk dog and older so this was not good at all. I will note that she had no periodontal disease or gum recession and has had her teeth cared for her entire life so this was not due to neglect or lack of care etc - it was the bone. Unfortunately because boy did she love it!!

| They definitely look like they've been enjoying their bones! It's hard finding something that doesn't have any risks... I'm still searching for the perfect chew/bone.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Well if you get lucky enough to find it - please post it. I can't tell you how many different chew toys I've bought, only to have them lay in the toy box. Neither of my girls do the Nyla-bones, even if they say "flavored". But they do love to chew - If I don't find something quick Bridget will turn the dresser in the spare room into a nightstand..lol!

| Some dogs do extremely well with this type of bone. I've been giving them to dogs for 50 years without a single problem. Course when the little meat that I leave on is chewed off, they lose interest. Guess it's best to start them out on "clean" bones so they don't get so spoiled. Here are the pictures of the beef femur bones the butcher cuts for me.

while I feed raw chicken or turkey necks now and again for the dogs, my Yorkie's favorite daily chew is a porkhide bone. I bought a larger size...medium I think...that she has been working on for a very long time...slowly slowly making it smaller...I think Santa might have to bring another one I ended up getting the larger size, both to slow her down a bit, and because my other dog is a little larger, and if I get the small ones, George will eat the whole thing in one day! but she doesn't seem to bother with the bigger ones that Charlee loves to work on! The pork hide is supposed to be more natural than rawhide, highly digestible and low in fat...

Donna.... I have some NEW treats coming. i have ordered them and should have them before the weekend. I was told they are especially great for those sensitive tummies. I have found there are several of you with this issue, so I am hoping they will be great. I will find you on facebook to tell you more sweetie.
