No Longer a Member | He is so BORED! Poor little guy , we have had nothing but terrible rainy weather for the last two weeks! Everyday, almost non-stop rain and Rizzo hates, hates, hates! the rain, as soon as he sees it he turns tail and asks to come back in the house. I'm playing fetch with him for hours on end, and still, his energy is driving me bananas What kind of rainy day indoor activities do you do with your whimpy dog, i.e. the pup that hates the rain? Because my little guy is bored out of his mind!! |

| Treadmill is a nice idea, if you have one. I also hide smelly treats around the house and let them sniff for hours to find them. Another idea is massage. They love it and it calms them a lot. Maria |

I am going to need some of these ideas. Yesterday was all rain and it looks like we are in for it today too. I have been up all night listening to the tornado warnings and sitings. I think I am going to take them out now and see if I can get them to stay under the eaves and get their business done up near the house. Not their regular place so not sure it will work. We also tke the umbrella out and Ben is good about going under that as I hold it up for him. Candy though, is not a happy camper with rain -- so she will probsbly make herself miserable holding it. She will go on the pad only when she can hold it no more. Annie is not trained well enough to worry yet -- she won't mind going anywhere! We do chase after each other in a big figure 8 through my house. I have a very open floor plan with foyer, kitchen, breakfast room, family room, dining room, and living room all connected by wide openings. So we just run through them all. It is just me and the "kids" so no one minds. Massage is a great idea! Thanks for thinking of it. Mine do like that!

No Longer a Member | Rizzo really loves massages, so does Fatso lol if one is getting a good massage the other needs one too. It's funny how human-like the kittys reaction is, head goes down towards the floor and a heavy breath out, lol. Unfortunately my house is not an open floor plan, it's small and U shaped, we do play chase but I usually wind up injured during that game, lol. His favorite thing to do is go to the wide open fields and just run and run and run, and go hiking which burns up all of his energy. I enjoy the nights of popping in a moving and having a sleepy pup on my lap and a lazy cat at my shoulder. Poor kid, he's just getting antzy, getting to the point where I lay in bed and feel his little feet climbing up my body, sits on my shoulder and stares at me. He's a special kind of puppy, lol. |

| I don't have a dog treadmill, I have a human treadmill. It's a bit tricky at the beginning but once they get the hang of it, they love it. A quarter of an hour to twenty minutes is more than enough. You could also try Nina Ottosson interactive games, they keep them occupied for a long time. Balloons are great to chase around the house. We live in Athens Greece and for the past week there is a big strike from people gathering garbage off the street. That means that all streets are filed with garbage and I wouldn't even dream of walking my dogs in that mess. I even disinfect my shoes when I get home. So you can imagine two Yorkies in an apartment for a week and one of them in heat!!! It's very difficult. We hope that by the end of this week the strike will end and we will be able to go out again. Athens sounds so romantic and I would think it would be so cool to live there but then I guess every cloud has both a silver and a dark lining. I would not care for the garbage pile up. But then New York had a garbage strike at least once. So, I guess it can happen all over.

| Rainy day here today and probably tomorrow too! Luckily, Jackson likes to sleep a lot on rainy days but he does get very bored. We learn most of our tricks on rainy days honestly. He loves nothing more than me sitting down with a clicker in hand and treats in the other and cannot WAIT to offer me new behaviors and even practicing the old tricks. It's mentally tiring for him more then physical. We also do fetch like you said. Or chasing around the house, LOL. Or I will play fetch with him up and down the stairs, so I'll throw a ball/toy down the stairs, and then go hide upstairs so he has to run back up the stairs. Running up/down the stairs definitely tires him out!

| Rainy days I cannot let Sprocket out on rainy days, he wouldn't come home! He loves the rain, water of any kind. Must be some genetic mix up or something. We are just starting into our bad weather season and its not nearly as bad as some of you have, but to wear him out I discovered a really neat and cheap toy, less than $5. Sprocket lived in a house w/cats before coming to live w/us and knew about the "laser chase light", I did not, when I was looking for new toys I came across this, WOW, running back and forth, barking, searching, jumping, just as fast as you can make the light move and for as long as he can hold out. Then he just collapses in a raggy heap and sleeps. The only way the light toy is better is when DH plays with it & with Sprocket. DH is really the dogs favorite play toy and together, OMG doggie heaven. They are so funny to watch. These toys are sold in almost all pet stores OR in the auto supply store (who would have guessed it) as a flash light type thing on your key ring. Good luck on the finding a way to tire out the dog!

| Buddy hates the rain, he would rather hold himself than go outside for a pee, but the treadmill is a brilliant idea, I have been thinking of buying one for ages, but no where to put it!

| No dog is too small to walk on a treadmill. Mine weigh 3 and 5 lbrs. They both use the treadmill at the same time. You just have to start gradually. First you have to introduce them to the noise it makes. When they are used to it, you put them on the treadmill wearing their harnesses. You can try getting on yourself and take your little one between your legs and then step on the sides of the treadmill wile your puppy walks on it. Mine got used to it pretty soon and now they walk on it without a harness. I would also like to thank you about your nice comments about Athens. Yes it's definitely a cool and romantic city to live with a great weather. We just don't have so many parks for our little babies. But as you mentioned, we can't have everything. Good luck. Maria |

| I wish I had some suggestions for you. We had practically the same problem last winter. We had snow upon snow here and it stayed for months. It was deep and, oh, so cold. Of course, we went out at every opportunity, but I really hope I never see a winter like that again.
