| I am going to go get a male yorkie to foster and to rehome I got a call from a good friend of mine that runs a rescue. She said she was looking on the Washington DC Craigs List today and a lady was posting her two yorkies for sale for $25.00. She wanted me to take them because she knows I am a yorkie lover and I foster for a local rescue. Of course, I said yes. All I know is this woman that has them, 1 female- 4 lbs already had 2 litters. and a 8 lb. boy (the Daddy) She wants to find them a new home because she has two small children and she can not spend the time with them, like she would like too. I do not care if I had 75 dogs in my house I need to get those babies out of there and out of the hands of the wrong people. Within 20 min. I put a message on my vets answering service, They need to be fixed ASAP. Then I will be looking for the perfect home for him. As of now, she (my friend) is keeping the little girl.So I will have the boy. I always worked for a rescue I really did not get involved in the rehome fee. What is a fair rehoming fee for a yorkie? Other than my vet charges do I figure anything else in to the fee? I will post all the info on him once I get him home and learn a little more about him. Thanks for any info.

| That's very nice of you. Hopefully, some of the rescue ladies will chime in and give you some advice.

| I would not want to go too low as you want the person to have a reasonable investment in him, see him as having value, and show some financial ability. Maybe $250 plus vet fee? I would not go below $250 total for sure. I might also include showing a paid up Pet Insurance policy if you feel finances might be a question mark. JMO and not one from experience. Not sure what the "going rate" might be.

| Most rescues charge anywhere from 200 to 500 re homing fee. You need to charge what you think is best. You will have vet bills, food bills etc..... God bless you for taking care of this little guy. |

| My new rescue, His name is Max. Well, We went to meet these two little yorkies this afternoon. It was a friend of mine, Bo (Mom to Hot Rod ). The girl that had the two yorkies, Did not want them any more ??? She put a post on Craigs List. She had a yorkie poo for $25.00. Once there I said to her, are you rehoming him (Max) she said no, I am taking him to the pound tomorrow. I said why? she said he is not good with Kids. So I said well, I do not have kids so this might work. WoW !! It did not take long to find out that this little guy not only did not like Kids but he was not a fan of strangers either. I went to pet him and he bit at me.I thought oh my,this will not work. Every time one of us went to touch him he would try to bite us. I said to Bo and Billie, we have to get this guy out of here as soon as possible. So home we came with two little pups. Billie took the female and I have the boy. Max. I could not imagine what was going to happen to my babies once I got home. I foster all the time, I had just not long ago had the yorkies and Maltese from the lower Eastern Shore that were taken from the old man that had all of the dogs. I was worried for my babies, Much to my surprise, I brought him in. took them out back, and I put him down, He just stood there while all 6 of mine checked him out. No signs of aggression at all. He let me touch him, pick him up, ect. I am just giving him his space. I do not get to close to him just yet, I did manage to put a band in his hair to get his hair out of his eyes. He had no problem. Between Bo and I, we will be looking for him his new home soon. But not until he gets fixed and a dental, and shots. By then he should calm down enough to be rehomed.I will see if Bo can put the pictures on here.So If anyone local is interested please let me know. thanks

| Maybe he was feeling territorial, since he was in his home when you were there. Perhaps he won't be that way at a new home?

| I thought the same thing. I do a lot of fostering and I have seen this before. Some of the fosters I have had, that was the reason they were rehoming them. But they seem fine once here. He is doing real good so far.

| He is very cute. I would end up keeping him. Maybe you can have the rescue you foster for help you on the fee and ask if they can give you some applications for people interested. Then they can read through them with you and tell you what questions to ask and what to look for on your home check. And don't forget to do a vet check too.Good luck finding him his forever home. God bless you for taking him out of a bad situation. Last edited by lillymae; 11-15-2010 at 12:17 AM. |
