| Owner needs re-training How do I get my 2-Yorkies to stop chewing my cabinets. They just started doing this which has forced me to leave them in a x-pen when I leave now. They have not done this in the past. My male is 13 months old and my female is 10 months old. I want these two Angels to be able to roam in the house all day without having to gate them but can't seem to get my male to quite lifting the leg and then the female sometimes will hit the potty pad if it pleases her to do. How can I break these bad habits? I work 5 days a week leave the house about 6 am and usually dont make it back home till 5pm or later. I had both of them trained (somewhat) on the pad. I take them put in the morning and when I get home in the afternoon. I stay outside in the afternoon for them to get their energy out and play with them for a while when we go back in. I let them roam in the house till bedtime. Then I put them in another room in the x-pen. Who needs training, me or them. What am I doing wrong here? Well I will attach a photo later, tried doing (2) and neither would attach. I guess I can't do nothing right! |

| My Yorkie is 4 and I still gate him when I leave. I feel it's safer for him not to be able to roam the house when I am not there. He can't jump up an the couch and fall off, or get into anything he shouldn't. He has free roam of the house when I am home to keep an eye on him. |

YT 1000 Club Member | Charlie didn't quit chewing stuff til he was almost 1 1/2 years old. I also have to use a belly band on him cause he still lifts his leg at 2. You just have to keep on top of it and keep trying. Maybe somebody else will have more suggestions. |

| They are both still pretty young and it can take some time for potty training. Being consistant is key. If the belly wrap isn't on too tight, he will get used to it. Maybe check the band for something rubbing or uncomfortable next to his skin? I take it he isn't neutered? It's usually studs that will mark their territory. For the chewing, I would see to it that they have something else to chew on...a safe chew toy (inspect it often for unsafe wear). Contain them in a safe area, away from the woodwork and cabinets. I would also continue using the x-pen or a large crate for their safety when no one is home. Gosh these little ones are wonderful...but do take some work, don't they?

| Jackson has had free roam since 5 1/2 months old. But he was on a STRICT potty schedule for the first 5 weeks that I had him. I think you need to just be REALLY strict and create a good schedule and work on getting them trained before allowing free roam. You literally need to have your eye on them 24/7 and when you can't... in the crate/pen they go. Is your male neutered? If he is marking, he probably is not. Getting him neutered may or may not solve the problem at his age. I think you need to be really consistent. They are probably confused because you are allowing them to both go in the house (on pads) and outside. Personally, I would pick one or the other, or they may always be confused.

| We used the Orange Glo cabinet stuff, we were told that the dogs don't care for the citrus smell. Seems to work pretty well none or ours have chewed on anything for a LONG time now. It seems like we Orange Glo everything now! Glad I like the orange scent! |
