| Official Introduction! My wife and I have five Yorkies and two cats and are in the great town of Westfield, Indiana! We started with our baby boy Houston (which my wife had to name after the Razorback football coach at the time-Houston Nutt), aka Pooter Butt (he's gasy) he is 10 years old, has diabetes, and is a survivor of calcium oxalate bladder stone surgery. Next came Piper (fitting name, our groomer calls her hyper Piper), aka PeePie, she is 7 years old, and "hypo" glycemic, has a little OCD with treats, treat bags, toys, etc. Next came Meadow, aka "Piggers"...as she is the treat assassin, she is 6, has the occassional pancreatitis flair up. Then our two rescue adoptees: Zander, aka Zander Mander Salamander, perceived age of 8-10 years, very skiddish, but coming out of his shell (and crate)...unfortunately had to have all his teeth pulled, and now his little tongue hangs out. Jack, perceived age of 8-10 years, extremely lovable, formerly aka Fat Jack, now just Jack Jack or Jackie. He came to us at over a whopping nine pounds, but now down to 6. Ideal weight for him should be 5-5.5 for his frame size. Missing his front teeth, so his little tongue sticks out the front, and has a couple of skin allergies. We have two puddy tats named Phoebe (Princess Boo-Boo Kitty) and Willow (Lady Tigger). Additionally, we generally have at least one foster at all times at home too! With this many, we say that we have our own small petting zoo and are over the legal limit for pets without a kennel license in our town. About me and my wife: We are here in Westfield, IN...I was the Director, HR & Finance for seven years at a local hospital before we were downsized in August. After a strong re-evaluation of life, I have decided to go back to school (I was raised on a cattle farm). I begin at Purdue University in January. I have two years to complete the pre-med program and will then apply to the School of Veterinary Medicine and be a vet. I am currently volunteering and interning at a couple of local vet clinics and the humane society until I can get enough experience so that someone will hire me and I can work part time at a clinic while in school! This is probably the toughest decision I have ever made, and thankfully, my wife started crying with joy after discussing with her. Although, she is pregnant with our first child (yes, we started late-both late thirties here), so it could have been the hormones (haha), but she is probably more geeked than I am (I think she is hoping it will eventually lead to reduced vet bills at home!) I love the forum thus far, and am hoping to impart some of the knowledge, stories, and love for this breed that I have, and to also learn and share in your love and joy of the breed also. My wife and I both volunteer with a Indiana based Yorkie and small dog rescue organization with 40 volunteers in Indiana, Illinois, & Ohio. No shelter, all private fosters in homes, and loving to help the furbabies find a forever home! Thank you for all the warm welcomes on my "Noob to the community post" I just wanted to throw out the additional info to let you know who I am! I have posted pictures of Zander Mander and Jack Jack in the pictures section and will upload more of the rest of the kids soon. Additionally, once I figure out how the YouTube thing, I will also submit some videos of the kiddos. Thanks so much! Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I'm so happy you've joined. Sounds like you really have your hands full with your little zoo. Congratulations on turning a potentially devastating event into a positive choice -- being downsized could turn out to have been a blessing in disguise for you. It sounds like you have a heart AND a good head on your shoulders -- a good combination to have. |
