| My little Bailey had an accident... Hi, haven't posted in awhile and honestly, wish I didn't have to post bad news.. I was running from room to room with Bailey. He's about 22 weeks and is 3 pounds. When I ran to the living room he must have ran too close.. I clipped him with my ankle or foot and he cried. It was so loud and so heart breaking. I picked him up and held him.. And he stopped crying.. me and my love set him down to walk. His right hind leg was tucked up! We took him to the emergency vet and now he's on tramadol and metacam.. the vet said he is showing no pain response, broken bones, or no LP was noted.. He may be just sore or bruised. I feel like a horrible, careless, and over all crappy mother. I can't believe I hurt my baby.. Please keep him in your thoughts.. I hope he is able to heal up and gets back to normal.. | Sorry your little one was hurt, but know sometimes these accidents almost can't be avoided. They do seem to run right up under our feet. I think I have stepped a little on each of mine's feet, luckily not with all my weight so no lasting effects. But I have felt so terrible to inflict any pain on them at all so I know how you feel. You are doing all you can, having him checked, getting pain meds and most importantly giving him all the love you can to reassure him. When I had a litter of pups all running around I wound up learning to walk with more of a shuffle around here and that helps a lot.

| Accidents happen, and this was purely unintentional. The best thing you can do is stop beating yourself up and give your baby fabulous oh-so-fantastic-only-momma-can-give kinda love

| Thank you.. I still feel so bad... I'm just full of regret right now.. Bailey has been sleeping for an hour and a half now. I guess the medicine is helping. Aside from his tucked-in leg, he was so jumpy and happy. The vet advised he doesn't run, play, or jump around for a week.. A week!!! He's a baby! He has to play.. look what I did to him.. I hope and hope and hope a good night's rest will help that little leg.. |

| I'm so sorry your baby is hurt, but don't worry- it wasn't your fault and you did the right thing and took her right to the vet. Hope she's better as quickly as possible!! |

| I'm sorry about the accident. But keep in mind, it's an accident. Don't beat yourself up about it. A week may seem long, but I know from very recent experience that if you allow Bailey to run, jump and play, that week will extend to 2 weeks or even more. My 5 month old Max hurt his leg a few of weeks ago. I continued to monitor him but let him play lightly. That didn't work. It was only until he was on strict crate rest that he healed.

| As the other have said accidents happen, the important thing is you took little Bailey to the vet to be checked. I think some cuddle time with your baby would help you both. Keep us posted on Bailey's progress.

| Poor Bailey. I'm glad nothing serious is wrong. Don't blame yourself. Accidents happen, especially with tiny dogs. I stepped on Lady's paw the other night and thought I'd broken her foot. I was washing dishes in the kitchen sink and she was apparently right behind me. I mean right at my heels. I took a step backwards and the next thing I knew she was screaming in pain. She was fine, but it scared the heck out of me! |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Don't beat yourself up over this. These little guys are fast and can get underfoot quickly. It's not as if you intentionally stepped on her- that's why it's called an accident. When it happened, you recognized the problem and acted quickly to remedy it in; that makes you a good mother, IMO. I second ADB's post. I know it's going to be hard to try and keep Bailey quiet and calm for the next week, but it really will speed up his healing process. We went through something similar last week with Scarlett, and although it was difficult, keeping her quiet really did help her heal quickly. Just look at this as an opportunity to get in lots of cuddle time. And lastly, you need to forgive yourself. I guarantee you that Bailey isn't looking at you and thinking that you hurt him. He only knows that you love him.

| I woke up this morning to give Bailey his next dose of metacam.. He got up and tried to lean on the fence but fell back to his butt. he's still favoring one leg.. He's trying to walk but just kind of gives up and lays back down again.. Should I keep him from walking around? Should he just stay in the ex pen? |

| Did the vet do any X rays? If not, maybe you should have the leg x rayed to make sure there are no broken bones.

| Definitely keep Bailey confined. Can he stay in a crate rather than an ex pen?
