| You might ask around your area to locate show breeders. You could also look at the YTCA site.

| there are several YTCA breeders in Ohio: Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club Also check out the Yorkies for Sale section. be sure you read this post first: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ead-first.html Show quality Yorkies are expensive and one cannot tell if a puppy is going to be show quality or not until they are several months old. Lots of beautiful pet quality puppies to be found and if you are not showing then a pet quality puppy should be fine. When you see a puppy you are interested in check out the breeder thoroughly before committing yourself. Also be careful of PM's you may get from breeders looking to sell their puppies. Not all YT members who breed are reputable breeders. Some read posts looking for prospective buyers and will PM them rather than posting openly on the forum. Good luck and I hope you find your perfect furbaby soon

| I know you said you're looking for a possibly smaller dog. Make sure you stay away from ANYONE who advertises with the word "teacup." |

My advice.... finding a great breeder is not a sprint, but a marathon. And, the breeder is with you the rest of your pup's life for advice and support.

Another good opportunity is if your city/town, has a meet the breed weekend and or day, and you can go and talk to various breeders of YT's. As another poster suggested, show quality can not be determined to any degree of certainly until about 6mths, at the most when they are young you have a show prospect. If you are not interested in showing the dog, I'd make that clear to any prospective breeder. If what you really are asking for is a beautiful example of the breed that is healthy, typey, with proper coat and color, then make that clear. Also in terms of size, at best there are only guesstimates of what the adult Yorkie will weigh. Nobody can guarantee a specific weight when a pup is only 12 wks old. One of the good things about meeting the breeders in person is you get to see and meet their dogs, and have a chance to assess the temperament of sire and or dam. Finally you might want to consider rescues, that may have older pups or young adults ready for a good loving home. Best of luck with your search and Welcome
