| new member in the family..and a little nervous!! Hey everyone! So I have a 1 and a half year old yorkshire right now named Coco, he's a boy and he's 10 pounds!!! Lol and now...im adding a new addition to the family and I'm getting her in a week! I want your advice!!! She's a girl and she's a miniature who won't be more than 4 pounds. Do you guys think they'll get along?! I'm so afraid because she's soooo small!!! I hope Coco doesn't get over-excited and hurt her lol But I would like to know your experience! Is it good to have 2 yorkies both early in age? Does it matter if the girl's a miniature and the boy's a regular..? I NEED TO KNOW!!! LOL thanks everyone! xoxo -Maria |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | First off, congratulations on your new addition. Just so you know, there is no such thing as a "miniature yorkie". All yorkies are considered members of the toy group, no matter what their size- though AKC standard does say no more than 7 pounds to meet the standard. Mini/teacup/pocket pup are terms used as marketing ploys. And it's almost impossible for a breeder to promise you she's going to be a certain size- there are just too many variables. I have a nearly 10 lb male and a 5 pound female. You will have to be careful in the beginning to make sure your boy doesn't play too roughly. Or in my case, that the girl doesn't egg the boy on to play too roughly She's my fierce diva and he's more of a laid back dude. Even though he's gentle with her, sometimes they do get carried away. She has no concept of him being bigger than her and she tries to keep up with him at every turn. When they aren't fighting over the same toy, they are the best of friends. Just make sure that when you bring her home, Coco know's he's still number one dog. Feed him first, talk to him/pet him first. There may be some jealousy issues at first, but if he likes being around other dogs, then I'm sure he will do fine with her. Good luck.

| We have a Zain, our 115 pound pyrenees mix, Darwin who is our 7 pound Yorkie and we adopted Mabel this summer who is still 2 pounds at 18 weeks. We picked her up when we were camping so the meeting was done on neutral territory. That was back in early August. Things are great - Zain is very gentle with Mabel, she LOVES Zain and she and Darwin are the best of friends. If anything, it's Mabel that attacks Darwin which is really funny to watch. They race around the house, Mabel totally chasing Darwin and Darwin not too sure where to hide - fun, fun, fun!! |

| We have two Basset Hounds almost 50lbs each, a Shorkie 12 lbs. When we got Zach he was 3 1/2 lbs we were afraid to let him near the other dogs. Zach now plays with the Bassets and the Shorkie all day. We watch them closley but as big as the Bassets are they are pretty good with Zach. As a matter of fact Zach makes them cry because he's forever biting their ears. We never have them together when we are not at home though. |

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | I would also like to start off by saying congratulations on your new pup. How old is she? as Rhetts Mama said there is no such thing as a miniature yorkie, they are all classed as a toy breed. You breeder will not be able to tell how big she will be fully grown. If she does end up being around the 4lb mark you will have to be careful, make sure they dont play too rough. Also is your boy neutered and are you planning on getting her spayed? If both of the dogs are still 'intact' you need to get them fixed, it could be very dangerous if a 4lb female gets pregnant by a 10lb male.

| Congrats on your new baby. I would make sure she is full grown before you purchase all those clothes though. Ally, who is just over 3 lbs/almost 2 years, was supposed to be bigger. Her parents were bigger than she is, but she did follow the size chart. Tia, who is just over 4 lbs/8 months, did not follow the chart. I wanted a baby that would be Ally's size so she would have a playmate and wouldn't get hurt. If I went by the chart (and all yorkies are different..I know), Tia wouldn't even get to 2 lbs. They do play well together, but yes...Ally is at a disadvantage and occassionally gets hurt. I don't think Tia is being mean; Ally is just so little. Ally also grew up with my neighbor's yorkie (16 months and 8 lbs). I am her baby/puppy sitter and watched her constantly when she went in for cancer treatments and hospitalized. Ally can no longer play with her because she hurts her all the time. I do love the stories of the big dogs playing with the small yorkies on here though. I love Murphy and Stormy! It can happen. Don't forget to post pics. Can't wait to see. |
