| My heart's broken... I adopted/rescued a tiny boy yorkie from a young girl that rescued him from a very neglectful home. He has kennel cough and is emaciated. He wobbles when he walks. He is flea infested and missing hair on parts of his body and it's completely gone on his ears. Most of his teeth are missing. He is also blind in one eye. The poor little guy just lays or sits and won't move on his own. He has these horrible coughing fits that hurts to hear. The girl was told he is 4 and she is thinking 6-7 so I don't know how old he is. I will ask my vet. She took him to her vet and he is on antibiotics and cough syrup for the cough. This little guy has so many problems I know I have a long road ahead but I'm going to give it all I have. I already love him. As far as diet, I'm going to transition him to natural balance from some cheap unhealty crap and was wondering what would be the most nutritious to add to his food, like rice or oatmeal, chicken, vegies to help put weight on? Or should I just stick with the natural balance? He weighs less than a pound. The original owner was calling him baby boy or something but I changed it to Teddy. I am taking him to my vet for a full check/2nd opinion. I'm sorry for the long post and would very much love any advice or tips from all the experienced folks. Thank you in advance for reading and your wonderful knowledge. |

| You are going to be this little boy's hero, it shows what kind of person you are. As for the fleas, you can wash him in dawn dish soap to get the fleas off, once they are off and you put him on a good food, his hair should grown back. As far as putting weight on him, you could buy Natural Balance meat roll and mix it with his kibble, that should put some weight on him.

| Oh my gosh, you are wonderful for giving this little guy a loving home and a second chance. I can't imagine a 6-7 year old weighing a pound. I like the natural balance rolls as Peanut suggested. We used it for treats as well for training. Best of luck with this little guy.

| Hi! I'm just south of you. You are a wonderful person to take on this little boy. I would wait to have a blood test to determine the best food for him. I feed nat bal, too. Mine didn't like the nat bal meat roll very much plus it was very hard to cut - at least, for me it was! I mix the nat bal with blue buffalo. I bake chicken breasts and feed half & half. Mine loves it. I also give her a snack at night of blue buffalo canned chicken & veggies. She really likes it and it has worked out very well for us. I'm curious what the cough is that your lil one has. I hope it isn't collapsing trachea. I would get him to the your own vet quickly, so you can start him on the rest of his life. I'm sure he will do better from now on. The wobbling is worrisome and I hope he doesn't have any neurological issues or liver issues. Please keep us updated and I send you my very best wishes.

| God bless you for giving little Teddy a chance! I would go strictly by my vet's instructions and give him plenty of time to adjust. It was our experience in rescue to let them acclimate to their surroundings and watch them to see what seems to make them calm and content. They have to know that they are finally in a safe place where they will always be clean, warm & comfy, never hungry and loved. You may be surprised at the little personality that begins to emerge! I will be praying that there are no health problems and that he will begin to respond to you very quickly. BTW, welcome to YT and I look forward to keeping up with Teddy's progress.
