| New baby sis Hello everyone! My little one is a 6lb girl named Melanie. She is playfull, has a boyfriend and is very social and super energetic. I'm getting her a little sister... but everytime I tell people I'm getting another girl they tell me they are gonna fight, is that right? I want them to be best friends!! My neighboor told me that girls will compete to be the alpha and only a couple will get along. Melanie is submissive she is spoiled and bosses US around at home, but when playing with other dogs she lays down for them to rub her belly just like she does to us. I'm confused now because I never thought about having a boy (is just a personal preference) and I already paid the girl's deposit from a fantastic breeder and my husband and I are already in love with her (Natalie). Any help/advise will be apreciated!! |

| When I got my very first Yorkie Penni a few weeks later we got another female "Tuppence". The first few days Penni would ignore Tuppence (and us!) but they didn't fight and they were soon playing together. There was never any fighting with them.

| I think it all depends on how the 2 girls like each other. Plenty of people have 2 female dogs that get along great. Some things you can do to help the situation: 1.) Introduce them slowly and carefully (there are a lot of great websites on first time introduction), 2.) Definitely get both spayed, 3.) Don't neglect Melanie or favor the new puppy so she doesn't get jealous- give her lots of attention and praise and she wont feel replaced, 4.) Feed them separately so there aren't fights over food, 5.) Give them each their own space (separate crates or beds that are just theirs) and toys and bowls. In the beginning these things are most important. After they get used to each other and know that they are both equally important, it should be fine. Good luck! |
