| can Anyone answer my question? Hi i just got a registered yorkie puppy from a good registered breeder. My question is,that she didn't dock the tail on her puppies and the pup is now 3 months old,so is it too late to get it done at 3 months. Are they put to sleep for this or should i wait until she's spayed at 6 months?would it be painful for her if she's older?she is very tiny. |

| Their tails are usually docked three days afer they are born. I do not think I would reccomend doing it now but I am not a pro.

| I think it is wonderful that the tails were not docked. I would love it if Gypsy's wasn't. Why do you want it docked?

| If you were to remove her tail now it would be the equivalent to removing your arm~yes an amputation. Not only would I not recommend you doing this I would think that you would have a hard time finding a reputable vet that would be willing to do it.

| It doesn't really matter to me if it done,i was just wondering if anyone did get it done when their older. In my opinion i think it would be painful for her now.I guess if she wasn't meant to have it she wouldn't have been born with it..I don't think i would ever be able to put her through that . Donating YT 500 Club Member | At 3 months of age, surgery to dock her tail would be comparable to an amputation, would be painful and require recovery. Why not just leave her tail? So many yorkies especially in Canada and Europe have full tails, she would have lots of company. My parti boy has a full tail and I love it! He carries his tail nicely, it's so cute waving back and forth. ETA: sorry, just now read Jodi's post to you....didn't mean to repeat the same.

| I think tails on a yorkie are beautiful, There are certain provinces in Canada where it is now illegal to dock, I'm happy about that!

| Many breeders import show potentials from NON-docking countries..and when done by a vet who uses laser surgery, it is quite simple and healing process is very short...but why go through any surgery at all for a pet..I would not.. |

| Glad you chose not to.... Harley was born just before the non-docking legislation came in here, so he was done, but from now on my breeder isn't docking unless they are show dogs (and we're pressuring CKC to change the standard *fingers crossed some day they'll listen). Best of luck with your new pup and welcome!

| Good choice at that age. The dog will thank you! I have seen Cane Corso's in England undocked and long ears. They still look terrific.... |
