| What is wrong with people? Ok, so my daughter who is 8 has dance lessons on Thursdays, I usually drop her off and then me and Roxie go to the park and walk, which is always a blast. Anyways...we are walking and this couple comes walking towards us with a poodle and some kind of huge dog, of course with a retractable leash on the poodle. Ok, so we move wayyy over and I tell Roxie to behave, meanwhile the bigger dog is just chilling and minding his own business enjoying his walk..lol..and the poodle..omg..it was barking and leaping and lunging, get this...and the man acts like shes the strongest dog in the world, and shes dragging him! Here we are way over on the other side of the walkway and this man is just letting the dog pull him right into our way , and thought it was hilarous. I was so proud of Roxie, she growled but didnt act stupid. As we passed, I said good girl Roxie, she needs to be more like you..lol...All the man could say was "Boo Boo you shouldnt be so mean" and laughed. WTH?? Whats wrong with people, that crap isnt funny...Sorry had to vent! |

| Some people have no sense. My boy Max has some socialization issues and some dogs make him act just like that poodle but I correct him immediately or better yet, when I see a dog coming I remind him "no barking" before he can even engage in that behavior. He has gotten much better. Some dogs still set him off though...I don't know what it is. Unfortunately, some people just don't know what it means to take responsibility for their dogs.

| Bella does the same thing as Max. I too correct her. It's work in progress. The embarassing part, the park we camp in alot of the campers there have nicknamed her killer. Either they or us need to change campgrounds if that's the case. We all are camping there way to many times. LOL |

| I have no problem with dog growling and barking at us..lol..I too myself have had dogs that way, but a retractable leash on that type of dog? and laughing about it, just makes no sense to me. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Okay I have to respond. retractable Leashes are my bette noire. Very few know how to use them properly. And IMHO retractable leads are NOT for big dogs. Unless you are using them in a controlled way to teach retrieve, come, etc. Poodles are really misunderstood by the general populance. A standard Poodle is a big dog, with a big prey drive, and is very very strong. If they are groomed in a "poodle" cut they might look cute, but many retain their working qualities. That owner is darned stupid in my opinion. I own a dog that weighs more than I, and is hugely strong, but he NEVER pulls me beyond a step or two in a direction I don't want him to go! Sure he could, if he had not been obedience trained. This boy could probably pull over 800 lbs if he put his mind to it. When he was an 8mth old pup, my hubby tied him up to a heavy picnic bench. This bench was indoors and on concrete. Hubby went to go to the bathroom, Magic decided to follow, he pulled that picnic bench at least 300 yards, with no apparent difficulty. An observer said, well at least he is not going to get it through the door LOL. I use retractable leads on my dogs, only in obedience training, never to walk them. And that even in Obedience training is in the early days, when they are pups.

| My absolute pet peeve is people letting their dogs go crazy on leashes. Duke is large and while he walks pretty decent on a leash, at times he can be reactive. We are working on it. I can't stand it when I'm trying to work with him on not reacting to other dogs and people across the street will let their dogs go nuts barking and pulling on the leash. I once was walking with Duke on a bike trail and this man with two shih tzus or shih tzu mixes were walking in the opposite direction. Duke was heeled on my left along the grass, the two dogs were in the middle of the walk way. Now let me remind you that Duke is a large dog and if he wanted could do a large amount of damage to a small dog quickly. This guy allowed his dogs to go crazy as we are walking by and basically get within a few inches of Duke's face. How does he know what my dog is like? What if Duke would have snapped for whatever reason and gone after them? Why, without knowing the dog, would you ever let your small dogs get within a few inches of a large dog, especially when your dogs are going nuts? I hate to stereotype dogs, especially with Duke, as GSDs have lots of stereotypes, but I won't let a large dog come near Piper unless I know them first. I just can't take that risk of a random dog coming up to a 4lb dog. Sorry, for the long drawn out post...but this is one of my absolute pet peeves. |
