| Princess had spay surgery this morning Hi Everyone! I have been a very worried, nervous Yorkie "Mommy" today. Princess had her spay surgery this morning and when I left her and my pomeranian for their surgeries I was about to break down in tears. I just called about 1 1/2 hours ago. Both are doing great. Wide awake and the vet tech was back there with them, while I was on the phone with her. Said both were wide awake and looking out the door of their "cage". I was told both pups did very well with their surgeries. I will pick both of them up tomorrow morning. I now have questions. What should I expect in regards to recovery? Anything I should be aware of? This is the first dogs I have ever had go thru spay/neuter surgery. I have had cats for many years so they are a bit different than my two pups. I bought baby onesies for both dogs to wear. I was told they may have a "cone" on them if they are bothering their incision site. I had laser surgery done on both pups and hoping this will help with recovery. I just hope I can keep both pups calm and not too active until they have recovered well enough. Today I have been trying to keep busy with washing both pups beds, blankets and soft toys. I want to make sure all of their things are clean and fresh for their arrival home. |

| I just spayed one of mine last week. I like to keep them in a crate for the first two days to minimize their movement and then as they seem to be doing better, I put them in an expen for the next week. Once its been about 10-14 days, I let them rejoin the pack. You may find that they have loose stools and possibly some vomiting. Only put toys that are easy to wash for the first couple of days. Don't feed them anything special and keep them on the same diet but you may want to start them back on a smaller portion. I would also supplement with some nutrical as a precaution. They are under a lot of stress with their surgeries now and can use the extra support. Be very cautious with those cones. You should be able to put about 2 fingers around their neck with the cone on. If its too lose they could easily pull it off. I had a bad experience one time when a girl of mine was able to partially get the cone off while I was away and when I came home it was half in her mouth and she was struggling with it. I was so lucky to come home when I did and she was fine once I was able to get the cone off. It was a sight I wish to never see again! That was scary. If you are able to, I would try to be near by for the next few days so you can keep an eye on them. When you have more than one, its even more important that they take the time to rest and recover before you let them be rambuncious with each other. Don't worry...your babies will be back to normal in no time at all!

| One more thing to add.... If either of them lose their appetite for more than for the first 1 or 2 days, refuse to drink water, appear extremely weak, depressed or have vomitting/diahread after the first couple of days, call your vet. Always have nutrical on hand. If either of them seems very weak or wobbly for some reason, give nutrical first, then call vet. Sometimes, the nutrical could be all they need but you should always check with your vet. Giving nutical won't hurt them at all but it could help save them if they were to need it.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am glad they are both doing well after surgery. Usually by the next day or so they are feeling much better and it is hard to keep them down. I just made sure they didn't overdo it. The onsies should help with any licking of the incision.

| In the past I've had my girl poodles spayed and the boy neutered. Never had a problem and they seemed to bounce back quickly. The male never slowed down from day 1. I've asked two vets if they give pain meds after the surgery and both said it's not usually necessary . Hope yours recovers quickly.

| Thank you to everyone that answered my questions. I am needing to call our vet today. Princess has had blood in her urine. I would never seen it if I did not have her pee pad trained as well as outside trained for potty. I also noticed this morning my Pomeranian "Ty" had some drops of blood in his urine. Our vet opens today at 10 AM. I will be calling them as suggested from our local Emergency vet that I called last night. Other than the blood in their urine, both of my "babies" are doing great. They both have on onesies to keep them from licking their incision site. They are both eating, drinking and going potty well. Both seem "normal" and want to be very active. I am keeping both dogs calm and not allowing them to run, jump or get too excited. I will keep everyone updated. Praying both of my babies are OK. |

| Glad to hear the surgery went well, but blood in their urine is not good. I'm glad you are getting to your vet asap. Let us know what you find out.

| Princess is fine today. Just wanted to update. Sad news yesterday. My 96 year old Grandmother passed away. Traveled to my parents 2 hours away yesterday and on my way (9 hours away) to be with family for a few days. And taking Princess along with me. I called to ask vet what to do and was told exactly what I already planned to do. Other choice was to hospitalize her while I am away. Best choice I was told was to keep her with me. |

| I'm so sorry to hear your news. May your grandmother RIP and you and your family find strength in being together during this difficult time. These little ones recover quick. Princess will certainly be much happier with you than being boarded at the vet hospital. It might even help you to have her with you. They just seem to know when we need them. Since this can bring some added stress to her, bring some nutrical to give her. Any worries about her while your away, just call your vet. Thats what their there for. My prayers are with you and your family.
