| Do not judge me, its not my fault! So... I travel for work occasionally and am not always able to take Crickett with me. On these occasions, I leave Crickett at the Vet to be boarded. I thought this would be safe for her, and they LOVE Crickett and often give her extra attention. When I returned from my last trip I picked Crickett up and noticed she was in heat. Well thats not uncommon. Stress can do that. Still I wasn't too worried because I thought that the cycle would be to bleed for several days then about a week later she would be fertile (when the bleeding stopped). Or so I thought. (You KNOW where this is headed) Now keep in mind Crickett is three pounds. When I originally took Crickett in to be spayed, the vet said she was too tiny and while they COULD do it, he would prefer to wait until she was a year old and see if she gained more weight first. Since she is entirely an indoor dog and only goes outside on a leash (yes even to potty she is leashed) this should have been fine. Well about three weeks later and I have noticed Crickett is acting more "clingy". She is eating A LOT more, and her teets seem to be swealing. Last night the little girl that walks Crickett for me picked her up and said, "Cricketts getting chunky!" Now if a seven year old thinks Crickett is gaining weight... I'm NOT just being paranoid. So here is my dilema. She could have ONLY been exposed at the vet / boarding. I'm furious. Obviously I will need to take her in and have this "taken care of". On the one hand I feel that the vets office should pay for and perform the procedure. On the other hand, I no longer trust them and feel like I shouldn't go back. (Especially since they failed to disclose that she was exposed to another dog.) Any advise on how I should handle this? Should I call and raise cane? Should I just take her to another vet and foot the bill myself? Am I over reacting andthis could just be a "hysterical" pregnancy? I KNOW she hasn't been exposed anywhere else.

| It could be a false pregnancy. Has she had any morning sickness? Usually morning sickness comes about 3-4 weeks after they get pregnant if it's going to happen at all. It's too soon to tell if she is pregnant for sure but maybe it would be a good time to have her spayed since you want to anyway. Take her to the Vet and tell him your concerns. PS. I LOVE the name Crickett. I might steal that name for one of my puppies. It's so cute!!

| i can only imagine how angry you are; i'm furious for you! if that was my bambi, heads would roll! i'd call them and arrange for a scan asap (even insist she does not leave their (or even your) sight), if she is pregnant, you'll be right there to vent your anger at them. if it was their fault, then i'd agree that they should cover the costs- i know my vet would if something was to happen with one of my girls, but different vets and different situations. wait until you know for deffinate that there is something to be angery about though, before you let them have it, because i'm assuming until this you had every faith in your vet? and thats hard to find- i'm lucky enough that my dad did the 'vetting' of the practice i go to 10yrs before i was born, but if they shut down, i'd be pulling out my hair trying to find a new one good enough for my babies! hopefully shes just filling out a bit with suspicious timing, but let us know how it goes!

| I would at the very least take her in to have her examined for sure. My Moka had two heat cycles before I had her spayed. She was NEVER exposed to a male, but after each heat her nipples stayed enlarged. After her second heat was over, I took her in to have her spayed and my vet thought she was pregnant, even against my insisting she was not exposed, and I requested they continue with the spay. When they opened her up for the surgery they found she had closed pyometra. So, my point is that she could have something else going on to cause pregnancy like symptoms. At my vet's boarding facility, my dog is never allowed to interact with others. (Moka's spay no doubt could have saved her life had we waited until she was really really sick).

| I hope everything is okay. They can be spayed at 3 lbs. Ally was done last year and weighed 3 lbs exactly. |

| Thanks for the advise everyone. I have made an appointment for tomorrow and will try very hard to be calm. -- As they say, you get more bees with honey! One of the dilema's I am having is that I am new to this area and this is not my regular vet. I am working in DC on a 2 yr term appointment, but go home to Tulsa, OK a few times a month were my normal vet (and my house) is. I've been trying to decide if I should take Crickett to the vet here or wait and take her home with me so Dr. York can look her over. (Also, a spay is $600 here and is only $200 max in OK. Thats for a regular spay!) But if she IS pregnant, I think the vet should have to be responsible. But its my baby and I really would rather Dr. York perform it. She is my BABY! *Sigh* You see what I'm going through? LOL @Sookie, thanks! Its ironic because I'm in the process of getting Crickett a sister. Her name will be Gidget (or Coco ) Also, I was just admiring your little Sebastion earlier this morning. He is a doll!

| First I would make sure that she is indeed pregnant and then as someone else said . Heads would roll!! But is it possible that the 7 year old that walks her could have had her around other dogs by mistake? |

| I also would be livid if this were to happen to my little "Princess". She is not much more than 3 lbs. I have discussed having Princess spayed with our vet. They have told me as long as she is over 6 months and healthy she can have her spay surgery. So, this Friday spay surgery is scheduled to be done. I am worried and stressing over her upcoming surgery. I know she will do fine. |

| It's possible she is having a false pregnancy. Mine have had them, they would gain weight and even produce milk, just no puppies. Let us know what you find out at the vet. I sure would be furious if she was pregnant as it was their responsibility to care for her properly.

| Unfortunately, if she IS pregnant, the Vet will not admit fault and you will be unable to prove fault. I can't imagine any Vet practice letting two dogs have contact with each other. I look forward to finding out what your Vet says when you visit.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | That was my thought, too, Sookie. Unless they have a record of taking the dogs out for potty/play breaks at the same time, they'll probably deny any contact. Hopefully it's just a false pregnancy.

| Yes, have her checked out. It probably is false pregnancy. My two girls went through all pregnancy symptoms on their first heat. The eating more is probably why the 7 yo thought she felt heavy. My vet spayed my Ariel and she was 2.5 lbs with no problems so I don't see why he had a problem with a 3 lb. But all vets are different. Have her checked then spayed. I hope all goes well. Keep us informed.
