| Spay Advice PLEASE!! I always value the advice I get here. Penny is being spayed tomorrow and I just can't decide if I want to get her microchipped and if I want to do the Oravet treatment. I know the Oravet can be purchased outside the vet office but does the first treatment have to be put on by them? As far as microchipping...is this really effective? She is pad trained therefore doesn't go out other than the occasional walk. It's just that the spay is $400 without these services attached and to be honest in these times I just am trying to be mindful of the cost however, Penny is very special to me and I don't want money to be the reason something happens later. Any help would be so appreciated as her spay is tomorrow. ;-) Thanks so much! Pam |

| Our 18 month old Yorkie, Darwin was supposed to be microchipped when he was neutered. For some reason the microchipping was forgotten and I just had it done a few weeks ago. We have an extremely gentle vet, but poor Darwin yelped a lot getting it done. I am glad I had it done just in case he ever gets out of our home, or when we're travelling, but I really wish I had it done when he was put under to save him the pain. If you are strapped for cash, my vet also said that he's had more dogs returned because they were wearing their rabies tag and only one dog returned because of the microchipping. We live in a pretty remote area so it's probably different if you live in a big city. Now Darwin is chipped and has his rabies tag. Sorry, but I'm not familiar with Oravet. Good luck! |

| We had Maggie micro chipped when she was spayed. I guess I feel better because it like added layer of protection. Not familiar with Oravet. Best of luck tomorrow. Let us know hiw she does.

| Thanks for the advice...I opted to go ahead with both. I just want the best for her. I am so weepy right now, I dropped her off at the vets about an hour ago and I feel sick to my stomach. Ugh! |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | It will be ok! I was a nervous wreck when I dropped Taycie off at the vet for her spay. I cried all the way home! But she is doing great and 24 hrs later I was trying to make her stay calm! I was also offered the Oravet, It is a dental sealent that they can put on the teeth. The vet tech explained it to me like a sealent that the dentist would put on our teeth to seel out the cavities. The kit you get for home is basically like follow up care it does seel the teeth but not like the one they are able to do. I wish I could have done the oravet! I have the kit for home but I was unable to do the one at the vet because she had 8 remaining puppy teeth and they told me they were unable to do it if she had teeth that needed to be pulled.. I was sad because I wanted it done so badly! I didn't do microchipping either... AGAIN I wish so badly that I would have. I do want her chipped I just figured I would do it later. But now reading about how intense the needle is and how they cry I WISH I would have done it when she was under the anethesia! I think you are a smart mommy! I didn't do either of those added services and my spay was 440! And I wanted to add on more... (I still am so mad about not doing the Microchipping) because she could have had that done unlike the Oravet treatment!... Good luck to you! My thoughts and prayers are with your sweet one today! I remember the feeling all too well! She will do fantastic! Can't wait to hear for an update! |

| Relax, she will be fine. S bit sleepy today when you get her home, but in a few days she will pretty much be back to normal, and in a week you will never even know she had it done. THey bounce back real fast. Watch a bit of Fox news and have a spot of tea! |

He didn't cry anymore than he did with his regular injections. You can get Taycie microchipped when she goes for her next injections.
