| First Heat.. Any advice? So, before I could finish making the decision about Bri's allergy and spaying she has gone into heat. I realized over the weekend she was overly clingy and well, today she started having symptoms. I am a little disappointed we didn't get her spayed before her first heat, but her health is more important. Anyways she is wearing a diaper right now, and we are just giving her love. Does anyone have any advice? This is my first heat ever with a dog and it's all new! Thanks!

| Don't panic, that's my main advice. Heat isn't as bad as you think. Just keep in mind that on the first week she will have some drops of blood. Her mood will change and she will want more cuddling from you. You will se her genitals swallow about twice the normal size, sometimes even bigger, but that's normal. After the first week she will stop bleeding but don't forget that she will be in heat for a howl month. So be very careful if you take her for a walk, because males will come from miles away for her. Give her love and affection but other than that don't change anything in your daily routine Maria |

| Fiona got her first heat a day before her scheduled spay surgery, which I was really upset about, and argued with the vet that I wanted her spay done sooner than when he said! I put a diaper on Fiona, and only kept it on when she was out of her crate, so when we were home, and out with us, she would have it on, when we went outside of course we took it off, when I was at work during the day, I left it off, and to my surprise Fiona kept herself really clean. Make sure you don't bring her around any unneutured dogs, and she should be fine. Fiona was just sorta not herself for a few days......if you have any concerns, I'd call ur vet! good luck!

| Thanks everyone! We're lucky enough to not have any major problems. Luckily we don't have any males nearby, but I'm def. gonna keep a watch out. I'm leash walking her even in our fenced in yard!! Thanks again!

| I had my dog scheduled for last wednesday and then the vet called and postponed it for three weeks, and now she's in heat! It's been a pain the butt because she wont keep her diaper on, my bed is all bloody because somehow she manages to get it off. She has also been alot whiner, she just sits there and does this growl thing. We have an unneutered male dog (my moms) and he will not leave her alone, it's pretty ridicilious. He never paid much attention to her until now lol now he's a stalker! I just can't wait till her apointment in two weeks although I will be sad when she gets dropped off |

| I had my little Pomeranian scheduled to have his neuter surgery several weeks ago but had to cancel. My 96 year old Grandmother had been hospitalized and things did not look very good for her to survive. I have been back to Georgia twice in 3 weeks with my parents to help them drive and be there for support. We have stayed each time for a week. My little yorkie is now old enough to have her spay surgery. I need to schedule both dogs have their surgeries ASAP, but afraid to reschedule since Hospice has been required for the care of my Grandmother. My husband had been out of the country also until a week ago. With my husband and daughter working, I would not have anyone home during the day to keep an eye on both dogs to make sure they recover OK from their surgeries. I like the idea of putting a onesie on the dogs to keep them from licking their surgical site or bother the stitches. I bought one today for my pomeranian but need one size larger than what I bought.
