| Any advice for after surggery? So, Merlin is going to get neutered tomorrow. I'm a little bit nervous that he might be in too much pain or is all dizzy or something else could happen. Any advice to make it as comfortable as possible for him when he comes home?

| Zeke had absolutely no problems. As far as I could tell he was in no pain and did not require any pain meds. We did pretty much hold him for two straight days to make sure he left his stitches alone. After the second day he was completely back to his old self. He had an undecended testicle so had two incisions. |

| Just try to keep him from running and jumping if you can. He will be fine in a few days. They take pain better than we do! |

| When Couver got neutered, we got to take him home that evening. He pretty much slept that entire evening and night and was back to his old self the very next day. I would say to just let him rest and make sure to keep an eye on him so he doesn't lick at his stitches.

| Just be sure to keep him quiet for a few days. He will probably be out of it for a day or 2. The hard part is once he starts to feel a little better because he will think that he can run and jump. Best of luck.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Yeah, great advice from everyone. First day he'll be drugged up and semi-miserable, and after that he'll want to go, go, go. Follow your vet's advice and keep him as mellow as possible, and you'll be fine. If there's any danger of him getting too rambunctious around the house, consider setting up an xpen to keep him from overdoing it.

| Thank you all. I just dropped him at the vet. Poor little guy didn't know what is coming; he loves going to the vet and greets everyone with kisses. I don't like the plastic collars I've seen so I got him a onesie to wear to prevent him from licking the stitches. And hopefully he will just sleep until he is better.

| Ally had no problem a year ago. You wouldn't even know that she was spayed and had 13 baby teeth removed. After the first day, I stopped the pain medication because she didn't need it. She even preferred her dry food to canned. Tia goes in tomorrow. She is so spunky, I'm sure she will do well also. They will probably beg me to pick her up early! lol For Ally, I stayed on the floor for a few days. I sat there with her pillows and toys all around me so she didn't have to move too much to get to me or her toys. We tried not to pick her up either. Everything was done on floor level...for her. Hope your baby recovers fast! Kisses and Hugs! |

Neutering is so much easier than spaying. They will probably give him a dose of pain meds before you pick him up, and sometimes those pain meds makes them feel so good, that they forget they had surgery...just make sure you dont let him jump up and down for at least a week, leash walk only for the next week, keep the incision area clean and DRY, and just watch out for him.....he should be fine!

| I agree the plastic collars are horrible. I was fortunate that my vet uses gas to sedate so by the time I pick up my Mocha he was jumping up and down and shows no signs of pain or distress at all. However, that plastic e-collar made him pretty miserable though. I recently ordered a soft e-collar from Mom to Hot Rod (he posted above). I have not received it yet but cannot wait! I bought it as insurance for future. There is not way I'm going to let my baby wear the plastic thing again. |

| Thanks again everyone. Merlin is doing awesome. They love him very much at the vet. Or do they tell everybody their dog is the sweetest and behaves so very well? I picked him up and it was like he didn't even had the surgery. I thought he would be sleeping a lot and be lethargic. No way! Had a real hard time to keep him calm because he wanted to roam around and jump on the couch etc. He didn't like his regular food so much but of course treats and peanut butter, and a teaspoon of ice cream. He is a bit tired now but had a hard time to settle down. I'm glad we did it at this age. Also had the pre-op bloodwork done and everything is fine.

| Merlin is 6 month old. He already started marking outside and once I could just prevent him from lifting his leg in my girlfriend's sunroom. I just wonder if he will still hump his beloved Tigger toy.
