| no more sleeping with me :( After feeling confident in allies potty pad skills, we have been letting her sleep with us since June. She would either go to the pad on my bathroom, or out to her pad in the kitchen, well on Monday we discovered all these little yellow stains. We rent our house and the carpet is brand new due to the old tenants dogs destroying the carpet with their urine. We cleaned the carpet and she was fine Monday night, Tuesday night, but this morning I found poop, and a new stain. I love her sleeping with us but I sleep so soundly that I never even hear her get on and off the bed. The last tenants are currently being sued for the cost of replacing the carpet in the bedroom. So I can not let her do the same thing. It breaks my heart but i had to put the baby gate back up this morning, and I am not looking forward to tonight, hope she will not be too upset with us for kicking her out! |

| Awww, sorry to hear that. I don't think that dogs sleeping with people is for everyone. For me it is a personal choice. I am a very light sleeper, so I know if my dogs get off my bed in the middle of the night and I immediately get up knowing they need something because they rarely get up. In fact, if they need to go out, they wake me before they get off the bed. However, I also sleep with my door closed, because I know that they would get up and down in the middle of the night to investigate noises they hear thoroughout the house. If the door is closed, they don't even think about gettin up. Might be something else to consider. You could also have the same effect of a baby gate at your bedroom door. Just anythign to keep them from having free roam of the house at night while you are sleeping. Oh gosh! Sorry so long.

| I'm sorry to hear that! I let Fynnlie sleep with me because I'm a pretty light sleeper. But, last night, I was just so tired that I was dead asleep and didn't wake up when he tried to wake me up. This morning, as I was getting up to his normal nosing of my face, he peed on my bed. PEED ON MY BED. I was so upset. He's NEVER done anything like this before. Never. I blame myself for not waking up when he tried to wake me up but still. On my bed.

| I like to sleep with my door open cause the kids are upstairs. I absolutely love her sleeping with me, the warmth of her curled up next to me, and she's a good "barrier" between the hubby and me Hehe, will see how she does by herself tonight otherwise I'm tempted to rip the carpet up and put down tile . We really should have done that in the first place, but carpet was faster and cheaper at the time. In her defense, there might be a scent from the other dogs that is undetectable to us but irresistible to her. |

| What if you tried sleeping with her on a leash. When I spend the night at my mom's house or my best friend's house, I have to hold on to the leash to make sure he doesn't bark at or chase the cats. When he's moving around on the other end of the leash, I wake up, even though I'm a pretty deep sleeper too. That might make you wake up enough to take her to potty. Also, maybe you could take away her food and water an hour or two before bed, so she won't have to potty in the middle of the night. I hope you find something that works. It will be so sad for both of you sleeping apart after getting used to sleeping together.

| I'm so confused, I thought she was "pad trained" but we are off school today & my son left one of the gates opened she followed him upstairs, (she has a pad at one end of the hall way ) well low and behold, she peed on the other end of the hall way. It just goes back to my original thinking, she has never HAD to "hold it" so is she really housetrained when she can just go anytime she wants??? why does she think its ok to pee on anything other than her pads??? When moved here in february and she had her limited areas up until middle of june when i thought I could trust her by giving her more freedom, now I'm back to square one, limit her access again But I really thought I did that already? oh allie you really keep me on my toes!! Better be glad I love you! |

| I would take her to the vet and have them check for a urinary tract infection, or anything else that may be making her pee in new places.. This can make them forget their good potty habits, and would make it difficult for her to get to a pee pad. I would do this before changing routines and such.....

| She actually has a vet appt on sat. for her 1 year checkup. I would have never thought of a uti. That's why I love this site. All you pros have really great ideas and suggestions. I like the leash idea too, but her current harness mats her soo badly. I need to order one of those silk ones from yt member. |

| Willow is 21 mos and I just recently have gotten her pad trained well enough to let her have full run of the house. She is too little to do stairs but she can go all over the first floor. I had to restrict her to the kitchen and den for mos several times before she finally "got it". She would do OK for days then I would find an accident. I was beginning to wonder if she would ever learn to go back to the pad regardless of where she was when she got the urge. Chloe was completely trained at 4 mos and I guess I was expecting the same thing with Willow but it didn't work out that way. I think pad trained dogs are harder to train because they never learn to hold it, they can go whenever they want. For me tho, at least with these two, pads are the only option. Good luck, it takes a lot of time with some dogs.
