| Yorkie Eyes/Coat Ok, have been told you can tell what kind of coat a yorkie has by looking at their eyes in a picture with a flash. Well, sometimes my Sophie's eyes show a green color with a flash, and sometimes red. In one picture, one eye showed red while the other green? Here are some pictures.

| From what i heard, puppies eyes usually flash blue, but your dog seems to be almost out of puppyhood, maybe that's why? Maybe try again in a few months. Uni's flash green and she is silky haired. btw, that last pic, I love how she's sitting, so funny!

| My girls flashed red at puppy and adult and she's definitely a cotton coat.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | It is true a green eye shine will be a silky coat and amber colors tend to be softer coats, or modified. Pictures can be tricky though with the flash. To be certain I've found it best to look for the eye shine in a darkened room, with a light source coming in from another room....a true silk coat you will definitely see almost an emerald green eye shine.

| Oh yeah, sometimes i can see the green eye shine in regular light, without a camera. If the angle is just right. it's pretty neat.

| Go in a dark room and shine a flash light in the dogs eyes... An eye vet explained the reason why coat types have green and red eye flash. Eyes of an adult do not flash blue..they are shades of reds, ambers, yellows..those are warm and the coat is cotton, soft in texture..green and greenish flashes care silk.. BUT to confuse the mix you can have greenish yellows and reddish yellows..but they are still the same warm and cool. |

| I always found this so fascinating. Jackson's always flash green that I can remember... he doesn't have a cottony coat, but his coat isn't really 'silky' straight either. I think he's modified.

| I think in young puppies they always flash blue, so I don't think you can tell that young. But I have also noticed that silky hair seems to grow much slower than cottony coats. for example, Uni (silky coat) she still had her thumbprints (I called it her racing stripe) between the eyes until she was about 2 1/2 years. I've noticed that cottony coats grow out the thumbprints and have an entirely gold head earlier on. This has just been my observation though. Don't know if there's any truth to it.

| Thanks for the info! I did not know that. Mocha's eyes always flash green. He is 10 months now and so far silky coat. Are you guys saying that after he is full grown, his eyes will not flash green any longer? I can finally have normal pictures without looking through to find pictures with normal eyes? |
