| To CKC or not? That is the question. I have heard CKC means nothing and to be frank...I don't much care about all of the politics behind which is better and why. We have no intentions of breeding her but I'm just curious as to whether or not I should pay this few bucks and send her certificate thing off or not. Any opinions? I mean, what's the benefit really? |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | It's really not about the dog, a CKC dog is just as good as an AKC dog, and both are just as good as the mutts you find at your local pound. What most people don't understand is we have an abundance of dogs right now, millions of dogs are put to death yearly because breeders breed indiscriminately without knowing what the market will bare. Buying a purebred should be about loving a specific breed so much you want to see the breed preserved in the future and this means you want to support the best breeders who will sell you a dog. So what you are doing is supporting good breeders, not buying a dog. Most reputable breeders do register their dogs with the AKC, this doesn't mean that all AKC breeders are reputable, but the registry itself is more reputable than the CKC, which in my opinion is worthless. If you want to increase your chances of getting a healthy dog that looks like a yorkie, find the best breeder you can find. You'll have your dog around 15 years if your lucky and paying a little extra to a good breeder is well worth it. Here's some information on registries. Registries By the way, the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) is the Canadian registry comparable to the AKC, however the Continental Kennel Club (CKC), an American Company, is considered a paper registry, and even it's initials were used in an attempt to mislead people.

There really is no benefit to sending in the certificate and registering her with CKC. I bought Beamer from a reputable breeder. Both his parents are AKC. I bought him last year just before he turned a year old. I bought him as a pet with the understanding I would not get papers with him. Had I got papers with him I probably would not have registered him, as I didn't buy him to show or to be a stud. I had him neutered. Registering him would not have been of any benefit to me at all.

| Hi Nancy I had a lot of telephone conversations as well as e-mails with Beamer's breeder. I kept all the e-mails in my "Beamer" file. This is from one of them: "As for his pedigree I will give you a copy of both parents so you will have them... and no... I am not going to register him because I am letting him go as a pet.... I only let my yorkies go with papers if they are going to be shown.... you only need papers to show or breed and he is a sweet little pet.... " So, his breeder hadn't registered him.

It is really a personal choice, no great benefit to you if you are not showing or breeding.

| I wouldn't waste my money to give it to CKC, JMO. AKC, yes, CKC, no!
