I also have a few questions? first of all he has really soft hair but there is a white spot on his chest area...is that normal for a yorkie? the lady i got him from said he has parti colored genes...not sure what that is either....forgive my ignorance!! Second his ears aren't standing up yet they are down... whats the oldest that their ears will come up? any additional advice and help will be greatly appreciated!! also with potty training ideas!!! Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Welcome! Congrats on your new little furbutt. 8.5 weeks is a little young. Ideally, he should have stayed with his mom and litter mates until he was 12 weeks or more. There are important social skills he would have learned being with them. Does that mean he won't learn them now? No, it's just that you will have to be his teacher and it can be frustrating. One of the big things you'll have to teach is bite inhibition. Ladyjane posted a link to a great article here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/tra...nhibition.html As for the white spot on his chest, he may have a parti gene or not.The parti gene means "partially colored" and is considered a fault in the coloring by AKC standards (I personally think they are pretty cute). I believe usually have more than just a white spot on their chest, though. There are several who breed Parti's on this board, and they should be able to tell you more about that for sure. You can find pictures of Parti Yorkies by googling the term. His breeder should have known if it was in the line or not. A lot of places I've seen links for say it's normal to have white spots on their feet, and that a white spot on the chest is predictive of a thick coat. Ears: Some ears pop up on their own, others need coaxing by way of taping, and some never come up at all no matter what you do. The best predictor of ears going (and staying) up is the ancestry. Ears also have a tendency to flop during teething. Potty training: There are lots of methods of potty training. Pee pads vs. outside, litter box...Crate training... The important thing to remember is that at 8.5 weeks your little man has an itty bitty bladder and almost no lag time between feeling the urge and actually going yet. Accidents are huge part of the territory. Don't scold after the fact- he isn't going to have any clue why you are upset- he's already forgotten that he just went. There are some great threads in the library and stickies at the top of every section to help you find your way. This is a great one to start with: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...w-parents.html Enjoy your new addition. And post pictures when you get a chance.

| Hi and welcome to YT. I am not familiar with partis but my Hot Rod and Maggie May were both very small when they came home to us. Just keep an eye out for them as for hypoglycemia. It's recommended to have Nutrical on hand if they should have any episodes. You may never have an issue but it is good to have just in case. It is when they do not eat for a while, their blood sugar can drop and little ones need extra care. Just be careful with what your little one is exposed to before his shots. Your vet may recommend not letting him wondering on the grass, especially in areas that other dogs may be. Best of luck and congrats on your little one. What is his name?

| Welcome to YT! You've already been given great advice so I won't repeat the same things over again. I can't wait to see pictures of your little one.

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Hi and welcome to YT, also congratulations on your new baby. He sounds to be a healthy weight for his age, although he is a little young to be away from his mother (12 weeks). Because of this you will have to keep a close eye on him, I recommend taking him to a vet for a check over and you also need to watch out for hypoglycemia. Because he is young you will have to teach him bite inhibition (his mother would have taught him this).. it can be a nightmare at times, I know because my pup was taken young and I am going through this myself but keep at it and they will learn! Also white on the chest is common in yorkie pups as is white on the toes (my Poppy has white on the chest, toes and chin) this does not mean that they are a parti carrier as like I said it is very common. Was one of the pups parents a parti? About the ears, your pup will be teething and this can effect the ears standing. Not all yorkie pups ears stand at the same time, some take longer then others and some dont stand at all... my Poppy is 13 weeks, her ears are still floppy but she is holding them alot higher then before.

| oops im sorry but i posted his age wrong...i was calculating a while ago and looked exactly at my calendar and he is 10.1 weeks old...so i got him when he was exactly 10 weeks old..which is still young. i really appreciate all the advice. also one of his grandparents was a parti yorkie. I'm at a loss here cause i had a yorkie in 2008 and she was stolen from inside my home along with some other stuff....i had just had her for a few days...i reallly miss her, but my new baby is helping me fill that hole.
