| 12 weeks unless they are really small and then it is up to the breeder on when they feel that it is safe for the little one's to go. That's what I've learned on this site, anyway.

| Jessica is right although 12 weeks is the optimal age. Very often puppies are sold at 8 weeks but those additional 4 weeks can teach a puppy a lot about doggie manners and potty training... |

| Thank you! It's hard to search for since there are tons of threads with "puppies" and "litter" in them |

| The rule of thumb for us, is a minimum age of 12 weeks, unless I feel they are not ready. |

| ugh, I am finding lots of 8 and 9 week olds. DH's parents got a puppy too early when he was growing up. It had lots of issues (Basset hound) |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | I am supposed to get my baby when she is 8 weeks old. I have told the breeder I am in no hurry and have had animals in the past who left their Mom too soon, and know the problems that can come up. She said will keep GoGo as long as necessary, and I've even offered to pay her in full in order to have that extra Mom-time. She told me no one has ever made this request before, that most people want them ASAP. Anyone who got into the kennel with the litter and saw how important that Mom-time is would want their baby to stay there a little longer. I just keep thinking about her first night at my house. The humans will all be overjoyed, but GoGo is bound to be afraid and really missing Mom and her brother. That alone is reason to let her stay until she's a bit older. |

| 12 Weekd for the Yorkies......12 weeks. If you want one sooner, say at 9 weeks, get a Cane Corso. |

IMO, 12 weeks is the minimum. Then, I think the breeder should make the call as to if they are ready then to leave. I have two girls. One I got from a breeder at 10 weeks and the other came from her litter at 5 weeks! (I rehomed her) There was a HUGE difference in them. The baby that left at 5 weeks has a ton of issues socially, eating, potty training, you name it. She's our little work in progress. | |

| The larger breeds, perhaps a bit earlier. But rule of thumb a lot of respected breeders use is 12 -14 weeks, or at LEAST two lbs for a Yorkie baby. Personally, I would love to see breeders keep them until at least 14 weeks no matter the size JMO PS: Welcome to the forum, another MN-soten!!
