Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Poppy is NOT the little angel she seems to be... Poppy has serious biting problems. At first she would just bite fingers and toes, I read: Teaching Bite Inhibition - Whole Dog Journal Article On bite inhibition and have been doing what it says but its not working. Now her puppy teeth are all in it really hurts when she bites and she is really starting to latch on. AND its not just fingers and toes... its faces, she is always biting me on the face. When she does it I give a firm NO! and try and ignore her for a while to take the game away but she just keeps biting me until I put her in her pen. The second she's calm I take her back out of the pen and the biting starts again. She has also started to try and bite my older dog Jess, I know that Jess will be able to teach her some bite inhibition but Im afraid Jess will really hurt her. Im goin on holiday next month and Poppy will be staying with my boyfriends family while we are away. Problem is that they my boyfriend's nephews and neices are always around the house and Im terrified she will bite one of them. The usual biting rules just dont seem to be working! Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks in advance.

| Sadly this is one of the down sides of taking a pup away from its mum too early. Her mum would have been teaching her manners, including keeping the biting under control. I know you cant do anything about that now though. Is there anyone else you could leave Poppy with? Someone who doesnt have children. It would be so sad if Poppy bit one of the children in the face, which could so easily happen. If it was me, i would be looking for someone who takes dogs into their home while you go on holiday. Dont know where you are in England, but 'pets and people' are meant to be very good. I think if you google it you should be able to find details.

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Yes she will just follow me and bite my feet as she goes. The only thing that stops her biting is putting her in her pen but thats only because she cant get to me. But the second I bring her out it starts again.

My boyfriend's father breeds bulldogs which I know are totally different to yorkies but atleast he knows how to look after puppy's properly.. I would be worried about leaving her with a stranger incase they had no experience with pups. I will be telling them to keep her away from the children but I really need some help with her biting. I know she was taken too young, but I didnt know how old she was at the time as I was lied to and thought she was older... and I didnt know they should stay with their mother for 12 weeks until I found this forum. Thanks for the advice.

| So sorry you're having trouble with her, look at that wittle face she looks soooooo inocent lol. Have you tried telling her no bitting give kisses, and try putting a wet face cloth in the freezer and give her that everytime she starts bitting, it helped with both of mine, they just needed something to chew on and understood the kisses, good luck xo |

| Bailey is a little biter too.. When he gets too excited he'll go for the fingers and if your close enough, go for your face. i'm not sure if this is beneficial in the long run but when he bites, I clap and say no! The clap snaps him out of it and he'll bite less or start to lick my hand.. :-/ but I guess I am just scaring him.. Maybe that's bad advice.. :-( i've yelped but with no success.. |

| With my first 2 pups Chloe and Claire who are now 5 months old the yelping really worked for me. I did it loud to startle them and then said no bite and turned my back on them. I have a tiny one Charn that is four months old I'm still working on with doing this. With her I also put a chew toy in her mouth when I take out my fingers or when she bites on my face (she got a new nick name piranha face). I also noticed she does this when she gets really excited so I'll hold her away from my body until she calms down a bit then offer her something else to chew on that is acceptable and tell her good baby. I can tell it is going to be a battle with this little one. She also chew on my other two pups and they looked at her like please leave me alone and they will bite her back but gently because I think they know she how tiny she is only about 2 lbs now. |

| WHY do you constantly go around making comments like this? Almost everything you post is a snide remark. It's really upsetting. In case you aren't aware of it, this woman was lied to about how old Poppy was. We all can only do our best in life, and having other people be so outwardly unkind to one another is just not necessary. YOU being right about anything has nothing to do with someone else's asking for help and I see that you offered NONE. Racheal, you have been through it with this little girl! You are doing your best, and Poppy is thriving, obviously, as she's full of pee and vinegar I really have no idea how to stop her from biting, other than what's already been suggested. I just wanted to wish you luck and hope that you find what works very soon! Those little puppy teeth hurt! I wonder if there might be a YT member close to you that would be interested in puppysitting for Poppy? Or perhaps you could maybe find another Yorkie owner through your vet? If I had to leave my babies with a "stranger", I'd be very comfortable with someone that owns Yorkies too. You can pay a home visit before "hiring" them and tell right off if they care for their dogs properly and whatnot

| If yelping doesn't work, keep an army of hard chew toys or a frozen cloth near you when she's around, as soon as she bites you, in the deepest and loudes voice you can muster say "OUCH" and upon release of biting shove a toy (gently of course) in her mouth and when she bites down on that throw a praise party. That way she sees the contrast of bad thing to bite, good thing to bite... try it, it may help. It worked for Harley's general biting. now if he accidentally bites, we licks us to appologize. (well except when I brush or blow dry him... but that's another post, he turns into a demon biter at that point)
