| Looking at getting a Yorkie I've been looking at getting a Yorkie and think I'm ready to take the plunge! I've been reading lots of posts all day on here and have gotten lots of answers to my questions. I am getting really excited! I know I want a female for sure and am wondering if anyone has any name suggestions? I already have a Mastiff named Murphy. So glad I found this forum! |

| Look out Amy. Texyorkiemom is soooooo right. They will grab your heart and run away with it. I didn't think I ever wanted another inside dog and was talked into taking Rosie by my sister in law. Now Rosie is the light of my life, the queen of the house, and the baby girl of the family. I love my baby so much. I never imagined in ten thousand years I would ever feel this way about a dog. (By the way we don't say the "d" word around her because she really thinks she is a little girl ) I have to say that I am so glad that I ended up with a yorkie. As far as the name goes, I think once you see her and pick her out the name will come. It is really funny but the name you pick will "fit" their personality. Can't wait for you to get your very own. When you do please post pictures and I promise you if you have any questions there are so many here that will be willing to help!

| Awww, How exciting!!! Be sure to find a great breeder....there are many on this site that will help you find one or how to determine if you have a reputable one. It will also save you a lot of heartache and give you peace of mind that your new baby will be healthy.

| Welcome to YT AmyBeth! First things first, congratulations on your choosing a yorkie! It is such a special decision to decide to share our homes with this great breed! Now, as for breeders, make sure when looking for your baby go to a REPUTABLE breeder that health test their yorkies and participates in events such as Agility and/or Conformation, etc. This shows (to me anyways) that the breeder has the best interest of the breed at heart and is not looking to line there pockets with money. As for registries, I'd check to make sure that the breeder has at least titled (CH. titled) some of their dogs in AKC, UKC, or CKC (Canadian Kennel Club not Contentintal, anyone registering with Contentintal you can be sure is either a Puppy Mill or a scammer). If you haven't chosen a breeder yet and don't mind shipping I'll be happy to recommend some breeders I believe are very, very reputable. There are also many informed people here who can help you make the decision on which breeder would be best because chances are someone here has heard of most of the yorkie breeders out there. Be sure to check out Breeder, Vet, & Groomer Reviews - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community to make sure no one has posted a review of any breeder you choose to go with. I wish you the best of luck with you new baby! p.s. with names maybe go with themes? What is your Mastiffs name? Maybe go with the same letter or a name close to that one? | I agree with Rosie's Mommy... After all I am the Yorkie Mom who takes my Girl on a drive to look at ducks everyday .. as soon as she hears the k e y s rattle she is barking and spinning all the way to the mudroom to the garage. I find myself spelling out certain words so she won't think I am leaving her out of something .. not even I do that with my human kids Muffin and Boomers Mom is correct on the breeder part check them out many times ...... my breeder and I spoke via email and phone for three weeks, the first time on the phone we talked for 2 hours we interviewed each other... She is just as concerned about where those babies are going as I am where they are coming from.

| Thank you so much for the warm welcomes!!! I was looking at a gal who lives near and have gotten some great references from other owners nearby. Her babies are home-raised and AKC and after all our talking I feel really comfortable with her. I am planning on going to look at her place this week. I love reading how you spoil your babies and how they are such a part of your family! That is exactly what I am wanting with a yorkie! My mastiff has that kind of personality, but at 150 lbs, I can't really have her jump in the car and take her with me places or let her sit on my lap. But don't get me wrong, she would in a minute! She's the most docile, submissive dog I've ever seen and the neediest thing you can imagine! I made a list of some puppy names. Part of me wants to name her after the nickname I had growing up... PORKY! Now, I was a sumo-baby, but a stick-thin kid, so the name never bothered me. I am just not sure if that name will fit my baby... or if other people will think I'm mean. Other names I've thought of: Gizmo, Bambi, Pookie, Dinky, Peanut, Baby, Daisy, Hazel, Lola. I have been dreaming of yorkies every night!!! Getting more excited all the time! |

Your Mastiffs name is Murphy right, and you want a Female Yorkie How about M I M I in all when she chooses you you will know what she wants to be called . I am so glad you have found a breeder that you are drawn to. This breed is a lifelong commitment Adding to your fur-family is a process.. You are doing the right thing by reading up on what to expect, how to transition your baby yorkie with Murphy and let them bond. Mastiffs are so sweet such big babies(our neighbor has 2)

| Welcome to YT and congrats on your decision to get a Yorkie! They sure are stealing your heart in a split second. Before I met my husband and with him his tiny Yorkie Mitzi I thought a dog I have to bend over to pet is not a dog and my last one was a 180lbs. Leonberger... LOL! As soon as I saw this wee baby Mitzi I fell in love and with her with my husband too. He even included her in his proposal: "You and Mitzi are going to be my life!" Now when it comes to names I'm partial to the "Ms" as you can see. It happened when we got Maggie as a companion for Mitzi and I discovered that we had 'M & Ms'. Then when Mitzi went to the rainbow bridge we got Mikki and her breeder named her Marilyn Monroe... another M and so we stayed with the tradition and have 5 'Ms' now... How about Megan? Megan and Murphy... sounds good, doesn't it? |

| Welcome to YT... You will never be the same again once you bring your new fur baby home! I knew Harley was going to be special, I knew he was going to fill a void in my fur baby family (I used to live on a ranch with 12 horses before school), but I had no idea how much like a child he would be. My breeder allowed me to come visit him after he was born at 2 weeks (providing a followed a strict sanitation regiment so as to not hurt the momma or pups). The moment I held him, I was hooked. We visited so often, I thought my breeder was going to kick me out soon. That day I didn't just buy a dog, I bought into a huge family of Yorkie lovers, all of Harley's local cousins meet monthly for Yorkie walks. It's great! For names... I like Gizmo! especially if she is a little feisty I think Gizmo would suit her...
