| New Here! Hi, we just got an 8 week old Yorkie puppy. She hasn't had any shots and since this is our first dog EVER I was wondering when I should take her into the vet for that? She is doing well, eating dry food (Science Diet), goes potty nearly every time I take her outside, and uses her puppy pads in the house (most of the time). I was looking through the forum and it seems like she should have had some shots by now? I didn't buy her from a "breeder" that sells mass quanities of puppies or anything. We got her from a friend who breeds her 2 yorkies every few years. She gave me lots of advice on food, potty training, what toys to buy etc -- but nothing about her health?Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

| Maybe bought from a friend, but if she bred the dog she is a breeder. 8 weeks is too young to have sold her. You shouldn't be taking her outside until she has had her shots, you are putting her at risk. You need to get her to a vet ASAP for a health check and her initial shots. Your friend should not have let her go without shots.

| Hi & Welcome to YT! Congrats on your new baby, she is a doll! You are right, she should have had at least 2 shots before leaving the breeder at at least 12 weeks! Have you taken her to your vet?

| Welcome to YT.... You should take your puppy ASAP to the vet for shots... Your friend should have already done so before you picked the puppy up which by the way they should have kept at least 12 wks before letting you have it. Good luck with your pup they are so much fun at this age

| Take her to your vet. Your vet will give her her first puppy shot, and do a wellness exam. Please advise your friend that placing puppies before 12 weeks old and without vaccinations is NOT acceptable. Best of luck!

| Awe, she's too cute! Please ask the seller if the puppy has received any shots. I assume that if the tail is clipped and the dew claws removed, the puppy has already been to the vets? You need to know as soon as possible and then take the lil one to the vet to continue the immunization process. On my first visit to the vet - I has handed a chart/schedule of needed shots that are required throughout the first year. Welcome to YT!

| Your baby is adorable! Since she hasn't had shots, don't take her out especially around other dogs. Let us know when she gets those first shots. Trust me, you will NOW be her favorite that day!

| Thanks for the advice everyone. We don't have any other dogs, just her. I've called the vet and set up a wellness exam and first shots. She hasn't been to a vet at all. It kind of upsets me that she sold her too early (I had no idea) and that she didn't do the proper health stuff. Anyway, I'm already in love with this baby girl so it's not like I would want to take her back at this point. Hopefully all will go well at the vet and she can get her shots underway. Thanks for the input. |

Oh, my vet said it didn't matter if we didn't have any dogs at our home. We were advised to not let our puppy outside until shots were done....I would err on the side of caution here if i were you & keep your new baby inside until she gets her shots. Congrats on your baby! She's adorable. | |
