| Chasing rabbits I took Bella out without a leash, it was around my neck instead, but I had her treat bag. She took off running thru our barn lot gate and that's all it took. Crazy girl...she scared a rabbit out, but it went one way and she went another. I called her and called her, my husband started calling her and she wouldn't come back or out of the fence row...which is total brush. We have a lane and I thought she went down it, my husband asked me where she went and I couldn't tell him for sure, all I said was I feel a little sick. I back tracked and went into the cornfield because I heard her yelping. I looked in the fence row, waaalaaa, there she was hunkered down. We called her and she wouldn't come. So I not likeing certain bugs and snakes ended up going in after her, I asked my husband if he could her from his side and he said no...the brush was poison ivy. He gets it just looking at and here I am walking thru this mess and Bella laying in it. Luckly I've never got and I've had plenty of opportunities to get like last night. Well anyway needless to say second shower for the night and Bellas second bath for the day. No more running off the leash. Gotta get a fenced area put up for her to go out and run in. |

| Yeah, it is dangerous for these little ones to be running off leash I would suggest always walking her on her leash until you get a secure fenced area for her to run. It's not worth them getting hurt or even worse lost because you didn't use a leash.

YT Addict | You were a brave and lucky soul! I just have never fully trusted a terrier off leash. I know Mia would have a serious case of I CAN'T HEAR YOU! And she would be nutso if she got to chase a rabbit, she likes to watch the flock of canadian geese that hang out near our home. We tell Mia she is getting her fall protection on when we attach a leash. |

| She will prove herself somedays at doing real GOOD. I always take the treat bag and show her before we go out that I have it. But yesterday...I have a mind and doing what I want. I know when she didn't come out of the brush she thought she was in trouble and in a way she was. She didn't come when called. She was pouty all evening. It is kinda hard not to let her run, we have 80 acres. |

YT Addict | Oh I understand we have a wide open space also BUT know I can't run that fast. The Westie got out last week and we keep thinking she will prove herself again. I always take treats but know when Kismets opens it up she is far gone and heading towards the pond, chasing the geese rabbits and anything else that crosses her path. JUST when you think she will allow you to get her she scats & runs and you end up on the ground. Now she darts through a ditch, chasing a barn cat, running in 2 circles tight letting me know there is no way no how I can do it. About the time I yell, I am cancelling her safely home and quit she runs back to the deck..... SO Mia is not allowed that level of freedom.... I just can't go wicked fast on 2 vs 4 If only I were smart to tell her good luck sooner, she always comes when I stop chasing. |

| Jackson has pulled this maneuver with me before.... we live on 3 acres and behind us is 90 acres of farmland. He's got the whole darn field to run in but he chooses to find the woods that are WAY back there and run through them... he was always pretty reliable off leash but ever since that day when he decided to just take off, I haven't trusted him enough//it's not worth the risk. I don't disagree with off leash dogs at all but I think you must really know 100% that your dog will come back to you when called, and that they are supervised the entire time off leash of course. So, for the past year we've been working on recall a lot. I bought a long 50ft line ((I actually have 2 of these, so he can go out to 100ft))... and we practice, practice, practice. Atleast with the 50-100ft lines, he has freedom but I can pull him back if necessary. I always have a really yummy reward for recall practice. So far it's been working because the few times he's gotten out w/o a leash, he's come directly back! Yay! But I still am not voluntarily letting him off leashed in unfenced areas yet. Maybe when he's a bit older.

| When we got back to the house for her second bath, she had those little green stick tights in her hair. She did not like it when I was pulling them out. Silly girl. She was doing real good about coming back, that's why I thought I would give the freedom. Not no more. Just wanted to let her exercise, but I think I'm gonna have to find another way. We had been walking, but on our road the county had filled in the pot holes with gravel and some kind of oily stuff, so I cann't take her for our power walk. That would be an awful mess on her feet and legs. The joys of living in the country. |

YT Addict | Oh my!! Good thing she didn't go running too far. Alex has never been one to stray to far from where I am, so in many respects I am lucky! However, he does like to bark at wildlife. He thinks he is such a big tough guy! LOL
