| Help! I'm a new Yorkie Mommy! We got our new Yorkie, Remy, on July 16th. He just turned 10 weeks old. I am concerned because he just doesn't seem to like us! He doesn't wag his tail when we get home, he doesn't make eye contact with us- he just doesn't seem interested in us at all. We have a 3 year old Schnoodle named Rex and Remy follows him around a lot, but he doesn't really come when we call him and he lets us hold him for a while, but other puppies we have had snuggled up to us whenever they had the chance. Also, if we try to take something away from him that he isn't supposed to have he can become very growly and fierce sounding. Are we doing something wrong? We just adore him and we want him to love us! Thanks! |

| I had the same problem with Zoe at first. She was a happy puppy but I felt she just wasn't bonding to me. Even though I was playing with her I stepped up the amount of fetch, playing tug, having her look for her ball, squeaky toy, etc. I also gave her tiny bits of training snacks each time she came to me when I called her. She got so where she could spin on a dime LOL, when she heard me call her name. Of course she had a motive...getting that treat, but in time she grew close to me and me to her. As I write this she is sleeping at my feet all worn out from her bath and us playing puppy games. If I were you I'd call her and give her a treat each time she came. Eventually she'll look forward to hearing your voice and come running. Let us know how things go.

| Another thing...if you can teach Remy to 'drop it' and offer a treat I think it may help with the growling, too. Take care and welcome to YT.

| I think your baby will come around..I have heard that somewhere between 10 an 14 weeks they go through a fear period..So that could be why he is avoiding you at this time. Their little personality's change so much when they are babies., One month growling a lot, one month shaking like they are scared of everything, then one month running around playing and acting like a hyper little maniac..lol. They go through so many stages. The one piece of advice I can give you though, is dont cuddle him or baby him when he is growling, if you do he will think you are praising him for growling. When mine did this I just gave them a firm No, I agree with the other poster, give him treats when he is letting you hold him. and when he does come to you give him a treat then too. and eventually He will get the idea that you are the lady with the yummy stuff., and before you know it he will be trying to please you every chance he gets...good luck..oh and there is a forum here on the site, that explains how to post pictures..

| Definitely make sure you don't reinforce the growling by giving affection when he is doing it. I also agree that your little one may just need more time to become adjusted. Welcome to YT. I'm very sure you will find lots of info here

| Hi and welcome to YT. Give him time, he's in a new environment and all that he knows is gone. Just give him some room to explore and lots of TLC. He'll come around. Best of luck.

| Don't fret, Remy will be showering you with kisses as he gets more comfortable, it's only been a week.

YT Addict | Welcome to YT! I would definitely not reward the growling and just be patient with the rest. The not looking you in the eye could be a dominance issue. When Alex was a pup he went through a stage where he didn't want to be held or cuddled. Now 10 years later, he doesn't let me out of his sight and is laying on my lap as I type this.
