| More travel questions There might be a chance I will be able to travel to AZ from IN on a business trip with my husband this fall. We will be flying, southwest airlines. I have already looked them up and checked the rules on pet travel. I will have to buy a travel bag for Bella and she will be able to travel in the cabin with us. From my understanding it would be a non-stop flight, 3 hours. I know first and formost I would get her health records, you never know what can happen. I have traveled by car with her anywhere from 30 minutes to 6 hours. She does pretty good. Once in awhile she gets car sick, but not often. I figure I would get some kind natural medicine for a flight. What advice would you experience flyers have for me with Bella? |

| I had a 3-4 hr flight from LA to TN last year and Kaji did just fine! Get an easy to carry carrier for you. I prefer my Alex, because of the pockets, it made it easier to carry little things for him in his carrier (little bag of food, treats, a toy, etc). Tire Bella out before you leave for the airport. A long walk, a serious play session, you get the idea. Take a piddle pad for her, and 20-30 mins before boarding the plane, take her to the bathroom and in the large stall, put the piddle pad down to give her one last chance to go to the bathroom before the long flight. It's easier to have the poop bags to throw the pad in since their pee can be potent. (Kaji's is! ) As long as you follow the airlines regulations and made her reservation NOW, you'll be ok. Their is a limited number of dogs that can travel in cabin, so you want to get your name in asap before all the spots are taken.

| Minnie gets car sick and I give her some children's benadryl about 30 minutes before we leave. That helps her to relax.... |

| Do airlines have specific rules about carriers or would say my Kwigy-Bo bag be acceptable? Not that I want my poor furbutt to sit in that little of a bag for 3 or 4 hours but I'm just curious if they have size regulations? I'm traveling this fall and want to make sure I have a good carrier for him! Do they allow him out of his carrier on the plane? I've never traveled with a pet nor seen others traveling with pets on planes, thanks

| We actually flew Southwest Airlines this past weekend, and Holly was great! Southwest does have restrictions on the dimensions of the travel bag. 19"L x 14"W x 8.25"H for a window seat, 19"L x 19"W x 8.25"H for a middle seat, and 19"L x 14"W x 8.25"H for an aisle seat. I bought this bag Amazon.com: Pet Gear Aviator Bag for Cats and... It doesn't have a lot of pockets, but I liked the bag because the whole top can be unzipped, and the bottom of the bag becomes a bed which was perfect because we can't bring a dog bed. I just brought a big purse and stuffed Holly's things in there. We also took her to the family bathroom before our flight so she could go potty, because she will try to escape under a regular bathroom stall, and a family bathroom is an actual room. We had a layover (no plane changes), so we would open the bag and let her head stick out and giver her some water/treats. She's 4lbs so she had plenty of room in the bag, and all the flight attendents loved her!

| The official answer is no. But... I've done it and I know this is breaking the rules. It depends on the flight attendants, how well behaved your baby is, and if all the stars align right. I flew on a late night flight (1 am) and since everyone, including my baby, were sleeping no one noticed the quiet little dog on my lap. My parents gave me the window seat, so we wouldn't bother anyone. I did cover him and me up with the blanket provided by the airline and we both slept the entire way. During take off and landing, Kaji was in his carrier, clipped in and ready to go.
