| Second Yorkie Male or Female? Hello Everyone.. I currently have a three year old female Yorkie. She is great with other dogs away from home, however when another dog comes on her home territory she becomes quite aggressive. I would like to get another Yorkie and would like to get another female puppy. If introduced slowly would this work out well or do I need to get a male Yorkie. I would rather get another female because them seem easier to housebreak. What is your opinion? Any advice would be appreciated. When I first brought her home as a puppy my German Shepherd at the time acted the same way but I introduced them slowly and carefully and they became the best of friends. But he was a male dog and she was a puppy. |

| I have 2 male Yorkies. While I cannot offer any advice about what combination works best, I wanted to say that males are not more difficult to housebreak. I did not have any trouble potty training the one I brought home at 12 weeks of age. The second boy I brought home at 8 months old. He was perfectly outdoor trained and was easy to re-train to use piddle pads. |

| I've read that one male one female are the best combo. But I have a girl and so does my bf. They didn't get along at first bc the older one hated the lil baby. But eventually after a few months they became friends. I also wanted a girl bc of potty training and I like putting bows and dressing up. either way will work. |

| If your little one is showing some aggression already ~ you might want to consider a dog of the opposite sex. Usually, there is less territorial fighting between a male and a female.

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | My older dog Jess is female and very protective of her territory. I have had my new female yorky pup Poppy 2 weeks now and Jess dosnt really like her but she is getting better. When I first brought the pup home Jess was totally huffed and wouldnt even sit in the same room as the pup but now she will and sometimes she sits next to her. She dosnt like the pup getting too close to her just yet and will bark if she does. She also barks at her if she is getting a bit carried away when playing but she has never gone furthur then the one bark. She seems to be coming around to the idea of having another dog and I think the barking is just Jess's way of putting the pup in her place. They are never left alone together and we have a play pen for Poppy to play in, this seems to work better because Jess can get up to the pen and investigate and get to know the smell of the pup without being able to get her if you know what I mean. Introducing a new dog is always going to huff the origional dog but in time they will come around

Is your 3 year old female fixed? If so adding another fixed female may work, but if she is already showing agression I don't know if I would want to risk the chance. I added a boy second time around and BEST IDEA ever! He is so sweet and was not hard to train at all! He was already house trained and caught on well. | |
