| I'm back!! Just wanted to say hello to everyone! I Have been gone for awhile on vacation, (Had a great time by the way!) I Not only have missed Yorkie Talk, And most of all I missed my Chloe!! She is all I thought of while away, And couldn't be happier to be back with her. With that said She has gone through some changes as well! I feel like I left my lil girl, and returned to a teenager. She now BARKS! She picked this habit up from her bad brother while staying with my mom. And its not a subtle bark but a full on yapping fest..lol. She also is way more assertive and high strung it feels like. So Any suggestions on trying to quiet her down? Im sure ill never get my innocent lil girl back who never barked, but im hoping theres a way to control it a bit more. Apparently she also has the urge to run now, So i will have to be extra safe with that and use gates and all. As she was litter boxed trained, But now shes had her taste of the run of my moms yard and Wants to take off out the door when its opened, And has no fear of the stairs anymore. I doubt she will want to go back..to the liter box. BTW none of these things upset me,Although it was shocking at her new behavior, Not really complaining as It is what it is, just giving an update.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Welcome back! I'd have paid money to see the reunion. Wow, those are some changes. Lucky you -- you have a brand new Yorkie to get to meet. I've tried different things with barking and finally realized that all barking is not bad. I want them to bark when there's a strange noise at night. And I want them to bark when I accidently lock them in the bathroom. Or they want to go outside and pee. It's the persistent barking that I try to nip in the bud. I usually check it out when they first start barking. Often, that's all it takes to quiet them down. They had something they wanted to alert me to, and I checked it out and gave them an OK. Mine started barking at neighbor dogs on both sides, and I don't allow that. I go out at the first hint of a bark and tell them no barking. If they persist, they come in the house. That's worked pretty well. I've noticed lately that the neighbor dogs bark their heads off, and mine just sit there and stare at them. If they keep barking at the front window, I tell them no and close the drapes. When Eddie barks for an extra meal, I tell him no and ignore him. He learns he doesn't get what he wants by persisting. When I first started addressing it, I used to shake a can with pennies. It worked. But now that they've learned what no bark means, I don't have to do it anymore. As for outside peeing, if you don't have a yard, I'd go back to Potty Training 101. Limit her freedom and retrain on a pee pad. She'll get it. Good luck!

| Welcome back. As for barking, I too want them to alert me when there is a noise outside so when they start to bark at something, I tell them, "good boy, good girl" then I tell them "all done". This usually helps quiet them down and will most of the time stop them from barking. As for the pottying, you might have to go back to potty 101. How about trying the potty patch? It has a grasslike topper, maybe this will simulate the outdoors for Chloe?

| Welcome back!! Glad to hear your vacation was great and I'm sure it was hard to be away from your little Chloe!! Not sure I can help with the barking as my little one hasn't discovered his bark yet really but I DO have the potty patch and it works sooo well! I have an apartment so I have it on the deck and I'm trying to train Oliver to go to the door. He thinks its real grass and goes on it immediately

| thanks everyone Yes the home coming was spectacular! I started tearing up just walking up the walk to my parents home..and realized i was kinda fast paced walking running..lol She went nuts.. She even started doing this weird howling thing ive never seen before..it was awesome Of course I felt bad because when we were leaving she was whining a lot, as i think she really misses having a full time play buddy (or partner in crime I should say!) As far as the barking its mainly when the door bell rings and when someone comes home, but i am noticing if she wants something now she jumps up on the couch or whatever and looks at me then starts to do a growling thing followed by a yap to get what she wants..and that will have to stop. I'm sure with time and patience she'll re-learn some manners. As far as the potty training, goes we purchased a home a few years back with the intent on flipping it after we completely gutted and remodeled it, when the economy slumped we ended up renting it, but our tenants are moving out Aug 1st. So We discussed it last night and we are going to move into the house in aug, And were going to go the route of renting our condo for now. So basically flip flop. So anyway we will now have an acre lot (of course well have to fence in an area) so she can keep going outside. of course now well be in a place at least 5 times bigger so I may just need to get more dogs..lmao

| I have a Chloe too () and she tends to bark/yap nonstop when she gets very excited. Like, when my husband comes home or she wants to play but we aren't able to at the moment. Since her "negative" barking is just from excitement, we've been teaching her "Time Out". This has worked great because it removes her from the situation that was over exciting her and gives her a chance to calm down and "get a grip". I give her two chances and on the third strike she gets put in her little play pen for a few minutes. So, #1, she barks and I say "That's enough!" or "Hush!". #2 bark and I say, "Do you want to go in Time Out?". Then if she barks a third time, I immediately pick her up, put her in the pen and say "Time Out!" Rarely anymore do I actually have to put her in time out. Usually just asking her if she wants to go in time out gets her to calm down. Luckily, we taught her from day one that she wouldn't be let out of her box or play pen if she was barking so she never whines to get out. She might scratch a little on the side of the pen, but that's it. Good luck on re-teaching your Chloe manners! -C

| Welcome back! Glad you had a good time. Are you certain your mom didn't lose Chloe and get another yorkie?

If I didnt know any better I would swear she did!! lol She is so hyper now its unbelievable!! I am going to start looking for a companion for her as soon as the move is done! The funny thing is I didnt recognize her at first either..lol as it had been over a month and My mom chopped all her topknot off! i guess while i was away Chloe started getting a scab on the top of her head, my mom assumed she got scratched or something, Then she noticed a pretty significant bald spot by the end of the week. So she took her to our vet thinking she had possibly caught ring worm, or something but when tested and looked at the doc concluded it was from her barrettes or her bands being pulled to tight and her scratching at them. So he suggested no more bands till it healed..well she had quite the long hair so my mom wanted to make sure she could see and cut it all off!! I was sad but It'll grow back. (actually the spot has filled in pretty well so far) but yeah with all that going on I honestly had to do a double take!
