| Bow-legged puppy? So my Romeo is almost 12 weeks now and just full of energy. However, I noticed that he is bow-legged in the back. It's actually adorable to watch him walk but I'm wondering if it's a sign of future health problems that I should be aware of. He never has trouble walking or running and the vet didn't really say much. I'm just wondering if anyone else's pup has a similar condition or if anyone knows what I should be looking out for?

| Has he been checked for LP? usually they will walk like a cowboy if they have LP. He's so young to be walking like that already though.

| Buster walks bow legged, like a "cowboy". He has LP, both legs.

| Any other info your vet gave you about your baby's knees?

| The vet just said that they'll keep an eye on his knees but now that I'm thinking about it, I'm going to be more persistent. I do have a health guarantee on him, but I would be devastated to have to use it. At the same time, it is not the best time for me financially and surgeries and things for something so serious could really put me in a bad spot. What to do???

| Will your breeder reimburse you for the cost of xrays if there is indeed an abnormality? I am just worried that if your baby is already walking like that he may have many problems down the road. It's a hard decision, b/c if he does have a problem, and your breeder gives you another pup, that one may have the same problems as well. Maybe you could get a 2nd opinion from a different vet? When I first got Uni, I took her to Banfield and the vet just told me to watch out for her knees. he didn't tell me anything about LP. Then last summer she started hiking up her leg b/c one patella came out. My new vet then diagnosed her with grade 3 and thoroughly explained what it is and what happens. the Banfield vet didn't tell me anything! So perhaps a different vet with different knowledge could help? I guess in the meantime try to keep him from jumping off things or running too fast. But I really think you need to find out the reason he walks like that.

| Oh also, since you said money's tight now (as it is for many of us), think about opening up a Care Credit card. A lot of vets take it. Just as a safety net in case something happens and you don't have money or your cards are full, I know, it happens. I just applied and I got a nice credit line. Just in case, knock on wood, something happens, I have piece of mind.

| I may have to look into that credit card. And I'm also using the Banfield vet right now (yikes!!). He has an appointment next week for boosters so I will insist that he be checked for it, but I will also be contacting a friend of mine who has a really good vet so that I can get a second opinion. I pray my baby will be okay.

| Please make sure they do not try to over vaccinate him! Banfield is NOTORIOUS for doing this! Look in the health and diet forum and you will see a sticky up top, I think by Wylie's mom about vaccinations. If he is very tiny, only get ONE vax per visit and space it out by a few weeks.
