When do male puppies start raising their legs to pee?? Has anyone ever heard of 3 mth pup raising one leg to pee???? My little Vegas is. I thought I was imagining things at first but he did it again. |
Wow, he is quick, lol. Rizzo is 7 months and still squats like a girl, which is fine, I don't have to worry yet about marking. |
I count myself blessed and lucky Bogie is 20 months old had never developed the habit :) |
My older dog Jess is a girl and she cocks her leg for a wee! :O haha! |
I have found that if they are neutered by 5 to 6 months most do not hike but there is always the exception like (Vegas) :) |

Wolfie is 14 wks and has been doing this about 2 weeks now lol. Not a full on hike but definitely getting higher |
Cody was neutered just a little over 4 months old. He is now 5-1/2 months old and occasionally hikes his leg (not all the way) like to mark a hedge when we're on our daily walk. The rest of the time he just squats. He has never marked anything inside the house. I'm amazed when we are walking how much pee this little guy can generate in little squirts along the way. |
my Smokey was hiking his leg at 14 weeks.........i have one female that hikes her leg...............i have seen puppies as young as 8 weeks hike their legs.........which by the way is the cutest thing you have ever seen..........so i dont think there is a set age for sure...lol..........also....nuetering your dog will not stop it for sure............some will ...........some wont.............some it dont even slow down.............if you have a male that marks outside and not inside.........count yourself lucky...........Smokey will mark anything...........people............toys......... ..furniture...........you name it............he has to claim everything as his..............that is why he wears a belly band 24/7.............that way i dont have pee all over the place ..........good luck with your puppy.............in my opinion..........if you arent gonna breed him.........get him neutered now.....and invest in a couple of bellybands for when he is inside.............especially in a store or someone else's home........just cause he dont mark in your home..........dont mean he wouldnt in a stranger's home. |
My boy was neutred right before 1 year and he is about a year and a half now and still squats. On occasion I have seen him left his leg but maybe only 3 times. |

Once I took his piddle pad out of the xpen and placed it on a freestanding mat (no walls or objects nearby), he started squatting and lifting one foot an inch or two off the floor. Strangely, Max still hikes his leg outside in the middle of the lawn. |
Wow! Your pup is maturing fast ;) hehe. Jackson still squats to pee but when we're out at a park or a place another dog has been, he lifts his leg on trees, bushes, etc outside, still never lifted a leg indoors thankfully. He started lifting his leg outside around 6 months old, and was neutered at 6 1/2 months old. |
Chase was neutered at 6 months, and he started lifting his leg at about 4 months. We brought Calvin home at 11 weeks, and he has lifted his leg from the day we brought him home. Thankfully they don't mark, but there are many misses off the puppy pad. I wish they were squatters, although it's so funny if they see you watching, they are so proud and know they will get a treat for going on the pad, they lift their leg so high it's amazing they don't fall over! |
My chachi was 6 months about the same time his berries dropped |
