| Housecleaning Good evening. I will be getting a Yorkie in a few weeks when he turns 12 weeks old. After the books and websites, my only remaining question concerns what I should use for general housecleaning. I usually do my bathroom in bleach and my kitchen floor (which will be the puppy's home to start) in a heavy-duty tile cleaner, but I can't imagine that it's too healthy for these guys to lick a floor that's been bleached. Any thoughts on this and any other typical housecleaning items (Pledge, Windex, etc.) that should be avoided? Thanks in advance. |

| i keep the bathroom door closed, and i keep all the chemicals under teh sink in teh kitchen (hes not exactly allowed in here either) so i dont really relate........ maybe just clean one room at a times and let the chemicals dry??? vinegar and water is good for odors but i dont know hwo well it does on cleaning something |

| Exactly my question-- Obviously I know to keep him away from the chemicals themselves. But presumably dog owners still clean kitches and bathrooms with some unharmful substance. I assume the enzyme-odor-removers do little on the sterilization front. I guess my question is, if I use bleach or heavy-duty tile cleaner in the bathroom and kitchen, is a simple water rinse enough to take up the cleaning fluids to the point that it's safe for a pup to be in the area? |

| I would say yes - that should be fine enough to protect them while still keeping the house clean. I wax my tiles with a bleach solution then rinse with water. I don't recall ever seeing my dogs actually lick the tiles, but if they have I've never had a negative effect from it Good luck to you on your new baby

| i also clean my bathroom and kitchen tiles with a bleach solution, my puppy hasn't licked the tiles as of yet BUT ONE of my cats has a strange affinity for the scent of bleach and he tries to lick the tiles (*well he used to*), now i rinse them extremely well and dry them also. so just make sure that you RINSE WELL, COMPLETELY DRY EVERYTHING AND HAVE GOOD VENTILATION AND EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FINE. |

| We used to use a diluted bleach solution to clean/sanitize CPR training dummies .... I would imagine you could safely use bleach and then rinse. Yorkies are little "lickers" ... caught Toto licking a door facing one day!! I use normal everyday cleaning supplies and just rinse well [even with the "no rinse" products]. I even use it on the floorcovering inside her X-pen and she has had no negative reaction to anything so far.

| You might want to try Nature's Miracle (at Petco). It's safe and cleans effectively...as a matter of fact, it completely elimates odors for dogs, who have a heightened sense of smell and can smell things even after you use regular cleaners. |
