| Angry After Vet Visit I took my pom today to the vet for a general check-up and while there this lady arrives with two Havanese. Her dogs looked scummy and neglected. One was like poop stained and all dirty and the other looked like it hadn't been bathed in forever. Anyways after being there a few minutes I heard her say that the dog she had was going to Canada. So I was sure she was running a puppymill. So I ask in a friendly way what kind of dogs she had and she said that they were Havanese and were hypoallergenic, as if i were interested in purchasing one of her neglected dogs. She had another gall with her and she stated that the one going to Canada was sold for $1800 which I am sure the person purchasing it has no clue what they are getting into. So after they left i told the receptionist "I am sure that lady is running a puppymill" and she said I think so to . She said look at her chart, and I am not kidding you , it had as many papers as a thick college book. After seeing this I was so angry. I honestly think that vets should deny service to people who obviously neglect their dogs or let me resay this people who run puppymills. I wish they would disclose her information to me and I wouldn't hesitate to call the humain society on her. |

| it is so sad what people will do for money! grr they make me mad. Couldn't you call the humane society and just tell them you suspect that they are running a mill, and tell them to check it out, because you saw the conditions of her dogs. And tell them they don't look good anyway. Woulndn't that be enough grounds for them to check it out. Because they aren't kept clean and looked neglected. good luck!

| OMG! I would have flipped out! That horrible woman.. Puppy mills just make my stomach turn over.. All those poor mistreated dogs.. and then they're sold for outrageous prices to totally unknowing buyers.. Geesh.. I agree I definately think that vet offices should have clients investigated if they have good reason to believe they are running a puppy mill.. How awful..

| So what about the vet? Has he been a good vet for you so far? Is he like the only one in town? Are you thinking about changing? |

| Puppy millers make my stomach turn! And, so do the people who buy their dogs. And, it is not an excuse to say they didn't know it was a puppy mill because they could have come down and picked up the dogs for the same price it costs to ship them and seen the conditions. I wonder if they choose to look the other way because they have their sights set on a certain breed. Another sad situation is this-these people are usually licensed by USDA the same as are farmers who raise cattle, goats and horses. The laws governing them says zero about keeping their coats clean. An animal MUST have access to shelter, food and water. The humaneness or lack of it is not legislated and these people can, and do, get by with what we call neglect, and still obey the law. I might be wrong in this, but I think not. If I am, someone please quote the correct law or interpretation of that law. And, I am not intending to criticize anyone on this forum.. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I wonder if you could get the receptionist to accidentally leave their records out for you to see the address - or tell them you need a phone number because you know someone interested in one of their dogs ? You can do a reverse phone number lookup and get their address - or maybe the Vets office will just share the infor with you ? no one has to know how you found out where they're located |

| ? I might be naive in asking this but I dont think that i quite grasp the concept of what a puppy mill is? But I hope that all the dogs there are ok.

| So Angry You should have gotten her information like you were interested in making a purchase and the immediately called the humane society. I had a woman who I had arranged to provide stud service for her dog. When I interviewed her on the phone everything seemed great needless to say when I arrived at her home not only did her dog not look like a yorkie, she told be that she didn't want to really deal with puppies. So I was like well I cannot in good conscience provide you service if you are not willing to make sure that the mom and puppies will get the best of care. |
