| My adopted pup has the worst mats!! We adopted a yorkie mix from our neighbor a few months ago. I have two other yorkies with beautiful hair and this dog has the worst mats! It doesnt matter how much I brush or cut or bathe. I am not sure what to do. I have never seen a well kept dog with such bad hair. and he hates getting brushed to make it even worse. Any ideas? |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | what kind of coat does this one have? is it soft and cotton like? mine is like that and its horrible to keep up with so i cut her down short. i've also groomed some soft silky coats that mat up by looking at it too. Some coats are just destined for tangles and mats. easiest solution, especially for a dog that hates to be brushed, is to keep them in a shorter cut. if you want to keep the long hair then invest in a good leave in conditioner like CC Ice on Ice, Natures specialty quicker slicker, or The Stuff, a good pin brush, and a metal comb (got brush and comb from mimimomo). Brush and comb every day.

| You might have to give him a pretty severe 'summer cut' and start fresh. That might be easier and less painful than trying to get all the mats out. He will be cool and fresh for summer and grow back a nice new coat that you can keep brushed and tidy. Good Luck!

| ^^^^ thats what I suggest. Cut it down to like half an inch and start over. Find a REALLY good shampoo and a conditioner (Pet silk, Nootie, Yorkie Splash) and just brush daily. |
