Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Just wondering... Hi I am just wondering how much is the average price for a yorkie in america? Ive noticed that some people ask around $1000 for them is this true? and if so why are they so expensive over there, are they quite rare? The only reason I am asking is that here in England yorkies are very common and you can get a pure bread puppy for around £300-£400 depending on the sex, for example i bought my pure bread girly for £350. So... are they harder to get in america or are they just very popular? Thanks in advance

| Mine are all rescues or rehomes. But I am pretty sure there is a poll that asked this question not that long ago.

| that's a good question... i'd be interested to see other people's response on this too... I'm not sure it's that they're rare or hard to get, I think it's more popularity with smaller dogs right now?! at least that would be my guess...

| I had no idea they were cheaper anywhere else. I did see a poll asking how much people paid for their pup, but not sure why they are more in America. hmmmm? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pol...ur-yorkie.html |

| I believe you need to research by areas and you will find sort of a fair average. So many factors need to be taken in when you are trying to price a dog: Vet cost in region the dog is available, maintenance, food, grooming, just to name a few... I know for sure vet cost in America can vary from 26.00 a visit to 276.00 depending on the state you are looking... other comparison can be the spay cost ... can vary from 30.00 dollars to 390 .00 , C-sections can vary from 300.00 to 2900.00 depending again on which state you are looking at ... so many factors need to be taken into consideration when you are trying to figure out what is a fair price . If you are living on a place where things are very expensive, including vet care and you find a very cheap puppy you need to be aware that the parents or maybe the puppy it self is not been very well vetted for an example, and may be an indicative of a BYB... but if you see also prices going towards the sky you can also get suspicious as it may be an indicative or someone who is only looking for a profit, greedy and who does not really care of what kind of a home their puppies are going to like brokers, pet Stores and there fore you may be looking into a puppy that came from a puppy mill... There are many threads here that have good information about how to find a good breeder, who responsibly loves the breed, breed for the betterment and is fair when pricing a puppy, that will take everything into consideration, who will not compromise the care of any of their dogs but will also consider the family that the puppy is going to go to ... Something that is "too good to be true" will always be too good to be true! Hope that brings some light into the question... I would like to point that here in my area the average adoption fee for a shelter puppy is 375.00 to 475.00 ... i know of some areas where the shelters have 5 .00 dollar adoption fees and 50.00 adoption fees. With the same routine followed. A lot need to taken into consideration ! XOXO

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Just to give you an idea, here in Atlanta I've seen yorkies go for anywhere from 600 to up well over 2000. Most of the time it's the breeding that makes the difference, but I've also noticed it does seem to vary seasonally with a serious spike between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day.

| one word: greed My Hammer was rather "cheap" at 600 because of his larger size. My breeder just sold two smaller size yorkies, one for $6500 and one for $4000. I dont believe they are rare. You can easily find a yorkie breeder these days. Not ALL breeders do it for the money. Those who have been doing it for years do it for the love of the breed. These newer breeders (again, not all) are just doing it for a quick buck. |

| I never understood why they cost so much, especially if they aren't for show. Even the yorkies at the petstore in my neighborhood cost $1,500. I got my pup via a breeder, paid a little under $500, he's AKC registered, parents are listed on his papers, he's perfect health. Sorry to say--I wouldn't have him if he was any more than that. |
