| Groomer gave Gatsby razor burn. so I searched all over town and went to visit about 15 different groomers until i came to the woman who I took Gatsby to today. because im not really sure its her fault and i wont ruin her business with what my have been my dog being to wiggly i will call her Patty. Patty has a wonderful grooming boarding/daycare business she has one employee who works the daycare/boarding while she grooms during the day. i watched her groom several Yorkie(all owned by the same person) before i took my baby in to be groomed one of then had very long hair and they took it down to a puppy cut and one was badly matted(they had just come from a puppy mill moms rescue earlier that week) of the two Yorkies the pom and a pekingese they all left looking excellent. when i droped gatsby off today he was not feeling well he had got sick in the car and thear was vomit in his bag Patty said not to worry she would clean that too. the groom took about an hour and 15 min but i got thear eary and had to wait on him about 8 min when he got back he was beautiful he looked amazing and he was not scared and upset like when we leave the groomer at petsmart he was even and fluffed and soft unlike when we leave our old groomer when his hair is usually dry and limp i was impresses and because it was really just a trim not a full groom she only charged me half price $10 gatsby was fine the whole way home and he even played with the cat a little when he got home it was an hour later when i noticed him just laying around that i picked him up and seen on his chest/belly area right above his winky three small patches of razor burn one of them rather swollen. icalled her right away and asked about it she said he jerked really bad when she did his chest every time she came close to his winky (i have had other groomers complain about this) she apologized repeatedly and even offered to give me back my money and groom him free next time if i chose to bring him back. now im not sure if will or not but more importantly what should i do about the razor burn? is thear something i can put on him to make him feel better and help it heal faster? something to make the swelling go down?

| You might try some hydrocortisone cream on the bad areas. This helped Neo when he got razor burn there. |

| My boys get razor burn really easily. My groomer has resorted to a complete scissor cut, of course this cost me $5 more ($45) for a groom. Fletch got razor burn on his 'winky' one time so badly that it got infected and he had to be on antibiotics for 10 days! He also got razor burn on his bum another time, not as bad though. I love my groomer and didn't stop taking my boys there but like I said, now they don't use clippers at all anymore, just scissors. My groomer said she only clipped my boys for 1 min then let the clippers cool down and did another min with them but it still didn't help so that was when she said she'll just use scissors since they are obviously very sensitive.

| I can't help you. That's never happened to my baby. Why don't you call your vet or an emergency clinic and ask them? I would be afraid to put anything on it as your baby might lick it, and it might not be good for him. I hope you can help him find relief tonight. I've read where others have put onesies on their pup so it could not scratch or lick. Just a thought. I'm sure others will be on the forum soon. Just hang in there.

| Is he scratching or licking it? If not, just leave it be but keep an eye on it. It usually goes away in a day or two but if hes irritated I'd try some neosporin and an e-collar so he can't lick it off.

| Stuff happens, if she is a really good groomer I wouldn't let it stop me from using her. If he is really bothering it I'd try a belly band until it heals. My biggest concern and I'd voice this to her, is that the next time there is a mishap she should tell you when you pick him up. This is not something you should discover when you get home but should be pointed out to you at the groomer's.

| I agree she should have told you upon pick up bpt wait for your caal and say oh sporry ya he is a wiggle worm,, this happend to my dog as well a few years back, but was on his butt, sad it was so bad he would drag his butt on the floor to make it better but in fact made it worse, he could not get comfortable, the hydrocortisone cream did help a bit, but time is what it needs, i would try not to let your dog lick at the cream if you can but if he ingests a bit it wont hurt him her. You may also want to try a little bit of vinegar on a cotton ball it wont hurt your dog and will take some of the sting off. |

| Thanks everyone i did call the emergency clinic to make sure what i had in the house was okay and to be honest i think it is bothering me more then him he seems fine. so i think ill leave it for now. she did tell me that he was squirming when she used the clippers but i don't think she knew that he got razor burn until i called her i almost feel sorry for her he is the middle of changing color and i swear he is losing fur some patches he has very think almost cottony hair and some patches he has really fine thin silky hair(today i noticed that on his back his hair has like Grey highlighting except in some small places so he almost looks spotted) the more i think about it the more i think it was a true accident thank you for your help i actually have hydrocortizone for dogs so if he gets itchy ill put some on him Thanks guys.

| you can ask that the next time that area is groomed to have them use a guard to avoid direct contact with the skin. I would too make it very clear that you expect to hear if there is even a slight mishap at any future visits. Because this was her first go round she may not of known he was a bit twitchy when she got to that area and was caught off guard and didn't know the full extent of the problem. Sometimes those things can look fine when it happens but be problematic later. If its a scratch I would put a small amount of neosporin on it. If it just looks irritated I would leave it alone. Im not sure if you can use cortisone or benydril cream on dogs. So unless you get the ok from your vet or they may have a calming cream for him. Sorry this happened to your little guy. |

| I have never razor burned my yorkies but I did razor burn my little schnauzer's ear. You have to be careful because it can become infected. She cried all one night and her ear was red. We took her in to the emer.clinic because it was on a weekend. The medicine they gave us to put on it healed it in a couple of days. I would just be careful and if it doesn't get any better take her in to your vet. I felt soooo bad but they are easy to do. Hope your baby feels better soon. A razor burn really hurts. |

| There have been a couple of occasions over the years were my groomer has given the dog rasor burn and I have done it on occasion myself ! It happens to the best of groomers espectially with wiggly pups. I wouldn't fault the groomer. Sticking with the same groomer gives the dog a chance to get used to the groomer and the groomer to get used to the dog, hope that makes sense . Eileen PS: I keep a tube of cortisone cream on hand for these little accidents, usually a couple of applications fixes everything up nicely ! |

| Patty called this morning to see how he is doing and really as long as you dont touch the area when you pick him up it dose not seem to bother him. i did put some neosporin on it because thats what the vet said
