Does Oliver jump a lot, like off the furniture and the bed? If he does, you might want to consider mini stairs for him. I've heard Yorkie legs are really fragile. Otis is 4, too, and I don't think 4 is anywhere near to being a senior! Don't worry....Oliver and Otis both have many, many years ahead of them! My mom's Yorkie is around 14 and he's just now starting to have health problems mainly due to neglect of teeth care.

I was wondering when they start to low down becuse I have a 11 month old son and when he is 8 oliver will be 12, and I was wondering if he will still have enuf pep to run, and play with my son shane. but probly not hey. thanks |

Yeah, I think senior age is at least 10+ for Yorkies. I've seen a few 10+ and they still have PLENTY of energy! But yes, please watch out for Oliver's joints, especially when jumping onto hardwood floors (or non soft carpet floors).

its kind of hard for me becuse oliver lives with my mom. and he plays with a bigger dog, and she gets him going. and he starts jumping around all over. they have carpeted floors thought. I heard that being over weight also adds stress to there joints, but he isnt over weight. so. thanks for all the advice though

Patella problems My female yorkie was only 2 yrs old at the time of her knee surgery for the patella problem. At first I noticed she wasn't using one leg and holding it up, then she would stop when walking and just sit there. I had her checked and after her knee surgery she's been fine, that was 4 yrs ago. They just scrape out the bone for the ligament to sit in the groove and work correctly. Just like they do for people. Her sister shows no signs of knee problems now and she's 4 yrs old. The both of them are staying at 5 lbs. each, I think an overweight yorkie would just add problems to their little bodies. Hope this helped your situation, don't hesitate to ask more questions if needed. Best of luck, Yorkie24u No. MA.

You might want to get him checked out by a vet, they can tell you more of whats happening. I hope he's going to be ok, please keep us posted.
