| is this normal for a yorkie? my breezy is almost 2 in about 2 months. is it normal for a yorkie to be VERY protective of me? i know it is my fault for not training him corectly however, when we are laying on the bed and someone walks in that he doesnt know (family visiting, etc) he turns nasty and would even bite if i didnt grab him. again, i know this is my fault for not training him perfectly but i was just wondering if yorkies are naturally protective? |

| I wouldn't say it's supposed to be 'normal.' I would never put up with a dog acting like so, but it is becoming a common occurrence with more little dogs than anything. Owners spoil the dogs, and dogs take over! lol. Yorkies can be protective- yes, alot of terriers are, but it needs to be controlled by the humans! Don't allow him to do this. Take him right off the bed or your lap or wherever when he does this to show it's not allowed. Re-direct his attention elsewhere with a treat or toy. Praise him when he does the right thing. You need to take control and be his pack leader, not the other way around! Set boundaries, rules and limitations! I always like to suggest watching Animal Planet's "It's Me or the Dog" and Nat Geo's "Dog Whisperer" for great tools and tips.

| Roxie is my first yorkie, and she is the MOST social dog I have ever had. She barks initially but then she wants all the attention...lol..That being said, she doesnt like strange people to pick her up, but petting her she tolerates..lol...She freaks out everytime we meet someone new to her, but I believe thats due to the fact that I am the poor girls 3 rd owner and shes only a year old. With that being said, I will be her last owner forever, because she is a DOLL!! |
