| Questions For Experienced Breeders. 1. Could I get the pro's and cons of micro chips? Im checking on the cost this week. Ive read some things and in all honesty Im not sure if I want to do this. Im wondering from experienced breeders if you micro chip the pups? 2. I have two years to learn EVERYTHING I can about breeding. The breeder Im getting my girl from is going to include me in her next few litters for experience. I am learning how to groom, etc from a professional groomer. Yes my first girl is from a fabulous back ground and both parents are healthy. Of course she will be totally checked over for any possbile genetic defects before breeding. I also would like to start gathering names/websites of "studs". Also PLEASE let me know of any that are not "up to par". I would like to know of books, websites and anything else you can suggest. Yes I know that its not easy etc. etc etc. BUT, everyone has to start somewhere. My husband will be retiring in three years and we will be moving to a 145 acre land plot. Our plans include a kennel for the larger dogs with a grooming station. We plan on breeding yorkies and labs. So any advice would be appreciated from experienced breeders and owners . If anyone is a breeder in Michigan could I please have your website for future use? **Please do not try to change my mind . You can give your opinion and I appreciate the concern but we have been planning this for several years. I am not going into this blindly I will not do this until I feel comfortable.

| Hi & Welcome to YT! It is great that you are learning and wanting to learn all you can. Having a mentor is a must, someone who can guide you through the process and answer questions. As for a stud, most breeders have their own and do not do stud service however, if you find one that does, make sure you look at the genetic testing of the stud that has been done, along with the BAT results. Both male and female need to have eyes, ears, heart, lungs checked prior to using. Both male and female also need to be checked/tested for STD's. Not to mention, both male and female need to be evaluated to ensure both are improving the breed. There is a lot more to breeding than just pairing up a male and female. You will find a lot of information on yt however, hands on experience and a great mentor is a breeder's gold! Good luck.

| Hi Mary thanks for your input. STD's? Holy smokes lol I had no idea that dogs get STD's? Im gonna have to look this up. Okay, a question about having a stud in the home. What if you dont want the dogs to mate when the females are in heat? Im thinking of starting with three females? Say a season comes around and you decide you dont want puppies. Do you just have to keep them seperated? I know I know lol please no eye rolling Quote:
