| Sugar the Lifesaver This girlfriend of mine came by a former show yorkie named Sugar. Right around the time she got Sugar she was making a big change in her life. She was moving cities, and moving jobs to share her life with someone special. Now this man is a big guy with a big heart, and because my girlfriend is a quality lady, I can assure you that he is treating her right. What she probaby did not expect was for a love affair to start between big guy and Sugar. It is to the point where my girlfriend is on the outside looking in, and it's all about Sugar and Daddy. LOL Well, here is the heart of the story. I talked to my friend today and is seems that big guy is having some issue with high blood sugar that he and the doctor are working with, but do not yet have under control. Sugar started this strange behavior of pawing at her daddy and signaling. My girlfriend finally said "honey, go check your blood sugar level." Sure enough, it was sky high. Sugar has now learned to tell Daddy when he is in trouble, and she had not missed yet. Girlfriend is asking Daddy to have Sugar certified as his service dog, which I think is neat. I just thought you guys would get a kick out of hearing about Sugar.

| Sugar is a special girl! She has the right name, too I hope that Sugar's Daddy gets his blood sugar under control soon, I know how horrible it feels to be sky high, and it also causes major organ/nerve damage.

| I was thinking the same thing about the name. Isn't it amazing how in tune our pups are with us. Kaji might need sensitivity training, but he sure knows when mommy needs those extra 5 mins of sleep. He sleeps too.

| My little Bella does the same thing. When my husband was still alive, she was "his". She was glued to him. Among his many problems, he was prone to seizures, but he hated taking his meds. Bella would begin to nip him, paw, whimper, do everything she could to gain his attention. Sure enough, it would be about 10 minutes before he had an "incident". So SHE knew, and warned him in time. After he passed, she glued herself to me. She's a "kissy" pup, always giving kisses. I'm borderline diabetic, not on meds - just supposed to watch what I eat and all that good stuff. One day she did the same to me that she used to do before Barry would seize. I took blood readings, and I was nearly 200. Now, that's not TOO bad for diabetics, but it's a lot higher than I normally am (or should be). I guess I tasted differently than I normally do. Misti1, your friend SHOULD see if she can get Sugar listed as a service dog. The REALLY good thing is that they would then be able to take Sugar everywhere: she could not be denied entry. Perhaps Sugar bonded with Daddy *because* he has a problem she detected? |

| Sugar's mother joined the board and peeked in on the thread, but I guess she just doesn't know how to post yet.
