my best-friends grandmother has a yorkie that is about 5 years old. she let her out on monday to run the 7 acre yard she dose this from time to time the yard is fenced and she cant get over the fence, the hawks are afraid of the critters by the pound so they dont bother her.
on Monday she noticed tazzy had been out for nearly 30 min and had not come back so she went down and looked for her she was no wear to be found, so after three days of terror she found a neighbor who had seen Taz at a house down the street. she went there and they said that the woman who lived in that house was in town with taz and would be back soon. when she come back she was upset to find Mrs mayfield(the real owner) was thear she told her that taz had come right up to her in the garden and she was going to keep her and "see about breeding her" well Mrs Mayfield was very upset and she told them that they might have some trouble with that for two reason one because she was taking taz home with her and two because taz was fixed she picked up taz and went home the people who had her called the sheriff! they told him Mrs mayfield had stolen there dog well the sheriff knows Taz and knows who she belongs to and so dose the only vet in town but for some reason they insisted on calling him out so he could make mrs mayfield give them what was thears
the sheriff made her pay for the vet visit and give them ten dollars for food and told them to take the other stuff back to the store they told him they wanted Taz
in the end they of course had no leg to stand on and had leave them alone but i was so upset that they wear not going to give her back tazzy was the first yorkie i was ever around and the real reason i wanted one so bad before i got Gatsby hear are some pics of taz

That is just crazy! Is it bad that I laughed at the part where the rightfull owner was telling them, "they might have some trouble with that for two reason one because she was taking taz home with her and two because taz was fixed," when they wanted to breed her?

That's ridiculous! I don't think they should have had to pay a cent after that lie. They were thieves and should be prosecuted! For all anyone knows, they hopped the fence and stole her.

Glad they got her back and she was OK, though.

I was just wonder how Taz got out of the fence. If he is used to running, then they had to have gone in to get him. Glad she told them off! like she did, I had to laugh at what she said to them.

Well, I'm glad Taz is home where she belongs but let me play the Devil's advocate here...she let her run in a 7 acre yard?? Fenced or not this is way too much space for a small Yorkie to be out in all alone. If I were your friend's Grandmother I would fence in a smaller section of that yard right off of my back door where she can let Taz out to play but where she has more control of the situation and where she can reach her if trouble comes around again.

Your right she should not let Taz run the whole yard but we cant change her mind and taz stays right near the house we have tried to tell her but she just tells that she is 70 years old and taz likes to run the fence keeps out deer and foxes and things like that thear are so many mice and rabbits in the yard next door (vacant lot no one cuts the grass) that the birds of prey would not bother her even if they wear not afraid of the statues and critters down by the pond i dont know whats down thear hear but i know the birds will not go over thear
i think the people did reach right into the yard and take her but we have no proof

Wow, first of, I'm glad that she got Taz home, but man she is a yorkie, and the coyotes they don't care when they are hungry

also we went to a festival and there was a man showing a hawk, and we (hubby and I) ask him about the yorkies been taken by it, and he said yes, if they are hungry they will go after them here is a picture of the hawk, even if they try to pick her up, if she fall she can brake a leg, or somenthing, please do what ever it takes to keep this yorkie safe

Again the fence keeps out coyotes and foxes and deer its like 10 foot tall in back only 4 foot in front but they would have to go out into a very busy street and im sure they would be hit by a car the street is between two highways and there is a heavy flow of traffic all hours this is another reason we dont think taz left the yard she would have had to cross the street and we are sure she would have been hit
you can all rest your worries for now however because she has a very large deck (like the size of my yard in the city) and we are going up on Saturday to fence it in and Taz has a turf patch that she uses for inside we will get another to put on the deck
no more running the yard for poor taz
it really is for the best

Wow...the wrecklessness of this owner could cause her little dog it's life someday. If the birds won't even go into part of the yard do you think there might be a reason?? Yorkies have drowned in ponds too...birds aren't afraid of statues once they figure out they don't move. The foxes she thinks Taz is keeping out have to eat and what do they eat? Small prey! I fear for Taz and I will pray that she stays safe.

We had a 1 acre yard that we always walked with our first Yorkie, Boog, every evening but one night during a bad snow storm he chased a rabbit across the driveway and he disappeared into the snow. I can't even begin to tell you the awful things that went through my mind...anything could have happened to him and it would have been my fault. We were lucky...he was 2 houses away but the snow was so deep he couldn't jump out of a tire rut...I only saw him because I saw the tips of his ears as he was jumping up trying to get out. Had I not seen his ears he would have froze to death. I never let him out of my sight again...I can't imagine just opening the door and letting a little Yorkie run free on 7 acres.

You posted this as I was typing...glad to read that you are going to help her get a fence up around her deck.

yes she will be safe the deck is around the side of the house so no one will even see her
it did not take much to convince Mrs mayfield because she just lost her Maltese last summer to kidney failure and it would kill her to lose Taz this has really opened her eyes and she will be sure to keep her safe

my original point was simply that i could not believe a neighbor stole her for breeding and then called the sheriff when mrs mayfield took taz home
we think they stole her because taz's parents come from Germany Mrs mayfields son brought them home with him after a few years stationed there people seem to think this makes Taz very valuable but in fact the opposite it true she cannot be registered with any registration service now and when it comes to breeding that makes her useless (well that and the fact she is spayed)
i just dont know what goes threw peoples heads sometimes

It seems to me, that this woman STOLE the dog.

I agree about not allowing a dog to be loose on 7 acres of land. Anything could happen. I have heard some awful stories of hawks and other animals capturing small dogs as prey.

I guess I am so protective of my 2 little ones. I will not leave them alone outside for even one second. Even if I secure their leash, I realize there is always a chance they could get loose. Or even worse, someone could steal them from our yard. Yes, these things do happen.

We don't have a fenced in yard. So, this is another reason I am always outside with them, on a leash. I will let them run loose on our deck with the steps blocked off, only if I am outside with them.

If she's not already, might not hurt to make sure Tazz is microchipped. Might be a good birthday/Christmas/4th of July/whatever present for Mrs. Mayfield and could eliminate any "confusion" as to who owners her should something happen again.
