| Just a reminder that you can never be too careful.. I know I haven't posted on here in forever (I don't have internet access at my home any longer), but I had a scary experience a few weeks ago and I just wanted to share it with everyone. My boyfriend was working on a project at home. Our front door has a window, and it cracked, so he needed to replace the window in the door and glue it in. He is always very careful about keeping all of his supplies out of the boys' reach, but when he got a call to pick me up from work early, he ran out the door without realizing that he left a container of adhesive on the counter. Well.. as some of you may know.. my cat likes to swat things on the ground, then my dogs like to tear them up. Exhibit A: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...e-boy-did.html Unfortunately, this time it wasn't a scarf. My cat swat down the bottle of adhesive, and my boys started chewing on that thing like there was no tomorrow. The cap was really chewed up, but so were the sides of the tube. When I got home, about 30 minutes later, I found the tube on the couch, and there was adhesive spewing out of all corners of it. Jimi had sticky stuff all in his fur on his paws, and Marshall had the same residue all over his face. I was devastated. Not only did one of my dogs ingest this stuff, but BOTH did. I tried not to panic, but once I read the back of the tube and saw all of the warnings, "If ingested, call poison control immediately," I became a wreck. The first thing I did was call my vet. Of course.. it was a SUNDAY. (Don't bad things always happen on the weekend or holidays when you can't get ahold of anyone?) I paged my vet multiple times and she never got back to me. I called an emergency hospital and they told me to call the animal poison control center, so I did. They told me that the two main ingredients in the adhesive, petroleum distillate and tourlene can cause severe brain depression and neurological damage. Needless to say, both of my boys were rushed to the emergency vet. Hundreds of dollars and many tears later, they are just fine. Apparently Marshall did ingest more adhesive than Jimi, but neither of them had enough in their system to do any damage. Thank goodness.. I don't know what I would do without them! This 1 oz., $3 tube almost cost me my boys' lives. This whole ordeal makes me realize how truly grateful I am for having my 2 boys who are happy and healthy. It also made me see how obsessed I am with them. I called my mom at one point during all of this and she told me, "Goodness with the way you are acting you would think Jimi and Marshall are your children!" What??? Are they not? Anyways, hug your furbabies real tight for me tonight. Also- keep everything hazardous out of their reach. I don't ever want anyone else to go through something like this. Sorry this is all so long, but with everything going on, I also forgot Jimi's birthday. Sorry baby boy, happy 1st birthday, on May 24th. (By the way, I know I need to post new pics of the boys, I am working on it. )

| Ok, not sure if the op will be back on since she said she doesn't have a computer, so I throw this out to everyone. There is an animal poison control, is that correct? I have never heard of that.

Regular poison control for humans will refuse to give advice for animal cases. The animal poision control center number is (888) 426-4435. They charge you a $65 fee. (Here is their website: ASPCA | Animal Poison Control Center) If you take your pet into an emergency clinic because they have ingested something harmful, your vet will sometimes call the same poison control number to get information on the substance, and they will charge you $130 for it instead of the $65. (At least my E-vet does this.) So.. they advised me to call ahead before I came in. I wrote down the case # from the poison control hotline and my vet was able to call them back. The hotline knew exactly what % of the substance was in the glue, how harmful it was, etc.. so the vet would know how to treat the dogs. I found out later that there is a poison control hotline for pets that only charges $35. Here is the number for that one: 1-800-213-6680. (And their website: Pet Poison Helpline)

| Oh wow, big time scary stuff So glad you're "kidz" are just fine...I was just telling a friend, this morning, we have to be members of the YBI (Yorkie Bureau of Investigation) 24/7 w/these little guys...Everytime I leave the house, I make a visual scan of the rooms they will be in (I still throw a breaker to the living room electrical plugs, and they don't even chew cords)...Even then, sometimes something shows up, on the floor, like a pencil ...This being my most recent fiasco, yesterday...there's no such thing as being too careful w/these little ones...And, btw, they are our children; they just happen to be four legged, instead of two |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh my gosh, Meagan !! So glad the boys are okay, what a relief. You must've been just terrified. It's amazing how quick these fellas can get into stuff, even when you're super careful! I once looked over at Marcel and thought "hmmmm, he's really chewing at that toy, wonder which toy it is...?" - yeah, it was an SOS PAD. Not cool. How he got it? No clue. Give the boys a hug for me and hope you're enjoying your trip!

| Oh wow how scary for you... I know what you went through, I used to have a Miniture Schnauzer that got into some firecrackers... We had a friends 8 year old's son here for a little while dureing the 4th and OMG talk about a child that doesn't listen EVER... I told him 4 times to put the sparklers up off the floor so the dog didn't get into them. I kept hearing , I will. Stupid me belived that he would. One day the dog was acting sick, and I went looking for what could have made him sick, here there were 4 sparkers chewed on, each one a little further down then the next one. Lucky me the dog made it thorough that ordeal but boy was I angry at that child. So glad to hear that your babies made it through, things happen, just glad to hear that they are ok!! Quote:

| Thank goodness they are ok. Thanks for posting the emergency poison control numbers which I have noted, and I sure hope I never have to use them. I'm always watching for what my 5 furkids are chewing on, and careful about what they can get into. They are the worst about dragging in things from the yard and chewing up sticks and leaves on my couch.
