| Have you ever taught your dog something unintentionally? Hi, Yorkie talkers! Most of our dogs love to eat. Hey, dogs are greedy you know. Like most dogs, Josh loves finding tasty treats to eat. Unfortunately, some tasty treats do not agree with his tummy, which usually makes him throw up on my carpet. Yuck! I started putting Josh in his kennel when he showed some signs that he was going to throw up, because it is easier for me to clean the plastic pan in his kennel than to scrub my carpet clean. Now when Josh needs to throw up, he goes to his kennel. I never intended to teach Josh this behavior, but he has made taking care of him easier. Now, I put a disposable pad in his kennel to make cleanup a breeze while I teach him what and what not to eat. This experience reminds me that dogs are creatures of habit, and they try their best to please their owner. Josh is a sweet dog. Just thinking about the new behavior I taught Josh makes me laugh. Does anybody have any similar experiences with their pet(s)? |

| You are so right. It's very easy to teach them things unintentionally. lol! I can't think of a certain behavior right now, but they do learn words and expressions. For example, when I want everyone out of a room so that I can shut a door, I say "everyone out of the pool". I just started doing it for some reason. Now anytime I say it, they leave whatever room they are in. I also have to spell Yorkie Yummies now.

| I didn't mean to teach Kaji a lot of his Spanish commands. My mom kept forgetting what the English command was so she would just say it in Spanish. He's bilingual now.

You guys are right. Some of the best and cute tricks are the ones that capitalize on our dogs' unique personalities. I love the tricks that your dogs have master. I taught Josh some cute tricks that capitalize on his unique personality. I taught him to spin in the air. He does a cute jump and spins when he is excited just like Capt noonie's dog. | I enjoyed reading you guys' responses. I am so proud that Josh learned this new behavior. I love that he listens to me and tries to please me. Yorkies are so smart and loving. From reading the other previous experiences shared, we can tell how special and loving our dogs are to us. Last edited by JoshieBoy; 05-31-2010 at 11:14 PM. |

| I taught mine that laying on my desk was okay. lol I really don't mind it when I'm going to be working on the computer for any amount of time but if I just go in to quickly check on my email, they drive me nuts and want up on the desk.

After I signed out early this morning today, I noticed how I trained Josh to vomit on the disposable pad in his kennel was similar to how we potty trained our pets. With being persistent, we can teach our dogs any good habits we want in our dogs. I think that is awesome. | |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Ok- I taught a bad habit unintentionally. My friend has two little poodles. I got in to the habit of walking in to the kitchen and giving them a treat every time I went over there. Now they bark incessantly until I get one for them. My friend says I'm the only one they do this to. So, if I'm going to be honest about this, I guess they trained ME unintentionally. |

| Hehe, yes! Milly has learnt a couple of things without me teaching her. "Bring it back!"was my unintentional "fetch" command. Also, every morning she does a huge stretch, and I always subconsciously commented to her "big stretch!", so now she stretches on command it's hilarious. "Let's go!" When she's on my lap and I want to stand up, and she will spring up. Finally "what have I got for you?" when I'm about to produce a new toy or treat I just bought. She will always come running for that now, without fail. |

| Many years ago I had a Rotti and when we first got her I treated her like my baby and would burp her over my shoulder everytime after she ate...... Well when she got bigger (80+pounds) she would run and jump onto my lap and burp into my face every time she she had to burp. Used to drive me crazy till I remembered burping her over my shoulder when she was a baby, lol. She knew that's where she was meant to burp, as "I" taught her that. |
