| Is this breeder full of it?????????????????????? Hello and thanks to such a helpful community. Long story short, went to look at some older Yorkies near my job site in Houston TX this morning which are alot less expensive than the Yorkies back home in L.A. The breeder said an 8 month old male who weighs 3 1/2 lbs would not grow anymore. He said because he is so small, his sperm is worth alot of money, so if I took him it would need to be on a "pet share" basis as he would want to sell his sperm. The dog would be going to my mother in another state but this didn't matter to him as he said the sperm would be transported via Fed Ex overnight on dry ice. (I didn't ask how the sperm is obtained as it was all a bit overwhelming.) IN ORDER TO NOT have the "dog share" arrangement, the dog would cost an extra 1900.00 over the already 2,000.00 asking price. Right about then, the breeder swooped the pup off the floor to take something out of his mouth (it looked like a small piece of duct tape). I noticed the dogs bottom teeth looked strange. I mentioned this, and the breeder said that all small Yorkies have 2 sets of teeth and that because of their small intestines they need to chew their food more thoroughly so "the good Lord gave them double the teeth of bigger Yorkies." He proudly showed me the dogs entire double rows of teeth. (The dog didn't just have 1 or 2 duplicate teeth, it had two entire upper rows and 2 bottom rows.) Is this breeder full of it? He only had 4 dogs and they were well groomed and were in his home, which was very neat. The pup has already learned to sit and shake, so the breeder had invested time with him. Thanks for your responses, I'm not sure if I'm just a cynical guy from SoCal if this guy was full of it. |

| In a nutshell, the breeder is full of it. Start running and don't look back.

All dogs have baby teeth and adult teeth like humans except in Yorkies they usually have to be pulled (they don't fall out on their own) or the poor little dog will have tons of bacteria and rotten teeth. Eventually it could poison the dogs whole system and they can die. Also your mom wants a pet not a breeding dog even if they are AIing the dog at the vets but I would never do this unless I was breeding. Just because someone has a nice home and the dogs look groomed does not mean someone understands how to properly care for these little ones. YOu really need to contact the YTCA and get recommendations from them. I will say I am totally opposed to you finding the dog for your mom. I understand what you are trying to do but it is so very important the bonding happens between them and that hey are not treated as merchandise. Having a puppy will take a lot of work and Yorkies are one of the hardest dogs to housetrain...How old is your mother? Is she willing to have her rugs and carpet ruined? In rescue we would only adopt to the person who is going to have the dogs so we know the best match is being done.

| Yes, he is full of it. Sometimes, smaller breed dogs (and even larger breeds) don't lose their baby teeth even though they ARE supposed to lose them. The dog should be taken to the vet and the teeth pulled, since it will lead to misaligned bites, tartar buildup, tooth decay, local and systemic infections .... which can lead to heart problems and early death. If he is lying about that, no telling what else he would lie to you about. Don't walk away .... RUN! I would definitely look for a dog that you could just spay/neuter and keep as a pet, not one that keeps you tethered to someone that lies to you. Do you mind sharing the name of this "breeder?"

| Please look at the stickies at the top of this forum, there are good posts on what to ask, what to look for & stay away from when looking for a breeder: Yorkies For Sale or Wanted - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community This person is full of it! It is soooo important to find the right breeder so you don't get taken, have heartache & expensive vet bills from buying from puppymills, brokers, BYB's, etc... Also, again I suggest checking YTCA for breeders in your area.

| I guess it's OK to share the breeders name - R.R. Dean. He said his entire family have been breeders at one time or another, but he is a "hobby" breeder, and doesn't do it to earn a living. I just phoned and told him my new friends at Yorkie Talk suggested the dog's puppy teeth will need to be pulled and didn't say a work, he just hung up. Thanks to all of you. By the way, mom is 64, retired widow, recent double breast cancer survivor, home all day other than some volunteer work. They took out some lymph nodes on one side, so her one arm is a bit week but other than that she would make a great mom to a Yorkie. My sis and I are thinking an older Yorkie would be better so that's why I went to look at the 8 month old. |

| Oy vey. Run! I probably missed it, but why is it so important to have a 3 pound Yorkie??? My girl goes between 5 and 6 1/2 pounds and she is smaller than an infant! Not all small Yorkies will have problems, esp. if the breeding wasn't done just for small pups, etc., but they can be more fragile. And these types of breeders usually don't care about health anyway. Why not find a small breeder who breeds for health and the betterment of the breed?

| The size of a male does not make his semen valuable..his pedigree and confirmation make him of value to a breeding program...otherwise he will be a much loved companion dog. |

| wow i cant believe the crap he is selling!..man o man! im glad you came here and asked the questions first..he was really trying to fool someone one... and im sure the fedex over night sperm request would be costly..no telling what the vet charges to extract (im sure someone on here knows) and then the cost of fedexing it when ever he requested it would have been a pain the hiney for sure!! keep looking..good job! |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Just when you think that you've heard everything, someone posts something even more bizarre. You've already gotten good advice. RUN! The breeder wants you to care for and pay for the privilege of him using the dog as a stud at his will. A stud for which he will gain the financial benefit. A good breeder would never do that. The full double row of teeth is a red flag that he isn't giving his dogs proper vet care they require. Puppies do sometimes retain some teeth, but they need to be removed to prevent mal-positioning of the permanent teeth and breakage and abscessing of the deciduous teeth. Many pet owners and their vets opt to do this removal at the same time the pup is spayed/neutered to avoid the pup going under anesthesia more often than necessary. A second row of teeth DOES NOT aid in digestion and the smaller dogs do NOT have a smaller intestinal tract (in relation to their size) than average sized yorkies. Keep looking. You will find a reputable breeder who would never dream of trying to pass this BS on to you. A good place for you to expand your search for a slightly older yorkie would be petfinder.com. | I would never suggest puppyfind to someone who has never purchased a Yorkie before or even knows what makes a good reputable breeder...full of pittfalls...IMHO.
